Disable from start up the following (for now) ~
    windows messenger
    C:\Program Files\Creative\Splash Screen\CTEaxSpl.EXE /run
    FlashEnc.exe (If its not needed)
    Quicktime
    UpdReg.EXE
    Talk Talks HELPER
    realplayer
    Adobe Reader
(the EXE programs ~ im unsure what they will be called in the START UP menu as you wont write them down)

    Open SPYBOT
    Goto~MODE
    ~ADVANCED
    ~TOOLS
    click RESIDENT
    untick RESIDENT TEA TIMER
(It may well be blocking something from working properly)

By the exe programs, you don't mean all of them ,do you? (ie the ones in the Windows system folder). And leave the other Creative files (disable only the splash screen one)?

Do I uninstall the toolbars using Hijack?

sorry... and should I also disable avast and Spybot Tea tImer at startup? These take a lot of time and system resources, no?

The exe files operating on startup are:
    C/Windows/system32/ctfmon.exe
    C/Windows/system32/ntsystem.exe
    C/Windows/system32/nerocheck.exe
    nwiz.exe/install
    WINDVD patch - cthelper.exe

This one sounds well dodgy, kill it ~
    C/Windows/system32/ntsystem.exe
    and this ~
    C/Windows/system32/nerocheck.exe

Follow the instructions to stop spybots teatimer (menus INSIDE spybot)
leave avast alone (except try to update it if you can)

Did you tell us how much RAM was installed?

Personally, I would not disable the Tea Timer. It's very unlikely to be having a negative effect on your machine and for those mad clickers, it provides an extra wall of defence from Malware.

I said for now as the machine keeps 'freezing'. Its quite possible that something has been BLOCKED and REMEMBERED in that state that shouldnt have been. It was just to remove the 'freezing' issue for now (fingers crossed)

    Flying windows key + Break.

I have to agree with Donnie that alien is giving you bad advice regarding disabling Spybots TeaTimer. I don't think that he actually understands what it does and how much protection it gives!
Resident TeaTimer prevents unwanted files from being installed – no matter how – on your system. It monitors the processes called/initiated perpetually. If known malicious processes want to start, TeaTimer immediately terminates them, giving you three options how to deal with this process in the future:
    • be informed when the process tries to start again
    • automatically kill the process
    • generally allow the process to run
There is also an option to delete the file associated with this process. If something tries to change critical registry keys, TeaTimer will detect it.
    More info given here

    Reenable TeaTimer!
