Well I rarely do myself. But the sheer fact its on your harddrive may cause problems (As spybot etc 'write to' it):idea:0

Please tell me whats wrong with that statement E. ur saying when you immunise using spybot it DOESNT write to IE8??
Spybot add entries to the windows hosts file. This file is loaded into memory at startup, and Windows TCP/IP checks this file before it queries any DNS servers.
e.g. the host file entry 127.0.0.1www.aliennrik.co.uk would block access to that website.
So it does not actually write to IE or FF etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Thats SO pedantic I can hardly believe it!
Your going to nitpic at me not saying something EXACTLY right to the poor OP thats struggling with just about everything thats been asked of him?
Amazing...........
Tell you What E ~ YOU sort the guy out. Your the mutts nutts:idea:0 -
According to this post ~
http://www.spybot.info/en/faq/48.html
IE8 isnt yet supported by Spybot
Of course they may not have gotten round to updated the website yet
And here ~
http://www.spybot.info/en/faq/50.html
it clearly states the INTERNET EXPLORER 'PLUGIN'
and ill quote this bit ~
"tweaks browser settings to use their methods of blocking cookies, malware installations, bad websites and more.":idea:0 -
Well, I dunno about "struggling with just about everything thats been asked of him"... makes me sound like I am mentally challenged rather than just being a normal PC user... :-)
But hey Espresso, it's easy to criticise! AliEnrik is doing his best - what do you suggest?
Useless OP has now reinstalled IE7 and updated other stuff. And installed Comodo.0 -
In my opinion, aliEnRIK does seem to have an unnatural aversion to SpyBot and an excessive zeal for Comodo's firewall.
I can assure you that installing Comodo's Firewall will do nothing to improve the performance of your computer.
Tea Timer generally stop programs from adding items to your registry. In other words, stops them from starting up when you boot up your computer.
A firewall, such as that which Zone Alarm or Comodo supply, offer a different level of protection. Conflicts are unlikely, as either one or the other with pick up the Registry item attempting installation.
So in effect, you are far more likely to disable a program from working with a Firewall such as Zone Alarm or Comodo, than with SpyBot Search & Destroy.
Moving on..... As you have experienced multiple problems, including the installation of Malware, it is difficult to be sure if your problem may have to do with the installation of XP3.
It's 5.47am here, so I'll grab some sleep and look again when I wake up.0 -

hey, I LOVE Spybot
I only recommend Comodo as its the only decent firewall I know of other than Zonealarm which DOES have known conflicts with certain programs (And XPs firewall is junk)
And by all means ~ use tea timer, I just dont suggest using tea timer AND comodos defense mode
As explained, the computer 'freezes' so I was trying to get to the bottom of that first.:idea:0 -

Exactly, so why on earth are you advocating the installation of a program that absolutely will not fix the problem of freezing?
Surely you should find the root of the problem before insisting that the OP add another variable.
It is this and some of your other posts which lead me to conclude that you have an almost religous zeal about Comodo's Firewall and and an unnatural aversion SpyBot's TeaTimer, that leads you to recommend one and denigrate the other to almost anyone who will listen.
In much the same way you do about Zone Alarm. In fact, in all of my years of use of SpyBot's Tea Timer and Zone Alarm I have not experienced a single conflict.
But then again, I don't go downloading and installing the latest versions of everything.
It's not as if Comodo's Firewall has a perfect record of non conflicting behaviour.
So, maybe you can slow down a little so that we can get some relevant information from the OP such as RAM installed and possible conflicts created by the installation of XP3.0
