Not heard this one mentioned on the forums but the Leeds Building Society Card is doing 1% cashback till 30th June 2009 and then 0.5% thereafter. Seems slightly better than the raft of 0.5% cards at the moment.

Would all of these payments be valid for the 1% cashback on the egg money card - particularly loan repayments - 1% on these would be quite significantly and add up.
  • Can anyone explain the pros and cons of teh amex cashback card please

I always pay it off on time i msot want teh 12 months extended warranty on electrical items.
  • Hi,

I'm afraid there are no hard and fast rules for getting accepted for credit. Each lender has their own criteria against which you are assessed. They cannot do this on an individual basis so they cannot take into account your individual circumstances.

However, you are right that having lived at an address for a while and also being on the electoral roll are seen as positives. Since you do not have this on your application the first time round could make a difference. You say you own your own home and manage credit well, which is also beneficial. However, a credit company will also asses you on previous dealings, which in your case could be against you as you mention a couple of defaults. However, I am unsure as to whether this will also apply for a company credit card, but I guess it does.

Finally, a number of credit applications close together can be detrimental. Also, you have to remember that in todays economic environment, anything less than a tip top credit profile is not going to get you the best credit.

My advise would be to leave your application for a while, say 6-12 months, then check your perceived credit profile on moneysupermarket website and then re-apply to the best deal. In my opinion, you are unlikely to get accepted so close to your previous application.

    Hope this helps

    John

    Hi,

Pros are you get cash back on all your spending, you get insurance on any purchases over £100 (like all CCs). If you pay it off in full, without fail every month then this is a no brainer.

Cons are, bonus payment lasts for only 3 months, then reverts to a lower, tiered cash back. It is worth getting for the introductory period alone in my opinion. Also, AMEX isn't accepted everywhere, so it may be worth getting a backup cashback card for this.

Finally, for a long term card, there may be some deals that offer you better cashback. For example, a 1% flat rate (long term) card gives more cashback if you spend less than £12k per year, if you spend over this amount then AMEX wins out.

Beginning to wish I'd never got an amex cashback card.

My mobile and land line is being inundated by calls from american express 0845 6023497 it rings twice and then stops, or hangs up when I answer.

Its automated calls I guess, but I thought there was new legislation about restricting this now?

Twice at work today on my mobile, three times this evening on my land line.

We have called up about it, but its made no difference.

Sorry I dont have the egg money card, I pay for all the above on a normal 0% purchase/ cashback credit card.
