Like another reader I have had a Nationwide Cash Back Card for some time now. It used to be named as a good cash back one but nobody gives it a mention anymore. I am still getting cash back on UK purchases it was the abroad purchases on which they withdrew cashback.
The other thing I have found extremely handy is the fact that I opened a flex account into which I pay regular monthly funds and when abroad can withdraw local currency again with no cost.0 -

Is this halifax card still avaliable?0 -

I applied for the Amex Platinum card in early 2008 so I could get cashback on the cost of my new kitchen. So I haven't had it a year yet and I haven't received my cashback. I'm just wondering if it is possible to cancel the 1st card and get a 2nd card so I can put my Christmas shopping on it and get 5% cashback. Or do I need to wait until I've had it a year. Or is it not possible to do that even then?
I posted this a few weeks ago and someone helpfully replied saying that the offer was for new customers only. However, when I logged onto my account, there was a link offering me the chance to apply for more credit cards, and the platinum cashback card was one of them. I figured that wouldn't be possible if I wasn't allowed another one, so I applied. The new card arrived yesterday and the man on the phone assures me I will get the 5% cashback on this new card - even though he clearly knew I already had the other card. So I figure I can now cut up the 1st card and start using the 2nd one to get 5% cashback.
Bit late for Christmas shopping but good all the same!0 -
Hi everyone. I have a question that I think is probably going to be fairly easy to answer. I've never yet had a credit card that I've paid interest on so I'd like some advice regarding the Amex Platinum 5% cash back card.
If I took this card in January and spent the full £4,000 on it in one go (we're moving and need furniture) but paid off that full amount at the end of the month would I pay any interest on the £4k? Would I also receive the full £200 cash back? How and when is that paid?0 -

You can set up a direct debit to pay the full amount off each month and therefore pay no interest.
You should get your £200 quid cashback on your 4k spend (though you won't get any more as I think they limit the cashback to £200 for the first 3 months).
The only hitch might be the credit limit. They can be a bit stingy. I've got a limit of 2k on this where as I've got 5/6k on other cards.0 -
Hmmm... The credit limit seems a bit off putting. Oh well, maybe I'll apply for one interest free and an Amex to be sure. Does anyone know of any good reward cards?0

It's not listed because Nationwide withdrew the cashback card to new customers. I gave mine up after NW kept worsening the conditions - abolishing cashback on foreign currency purposes (its best feature), halving other cashback, reducing the interest-free period.0 -
Hello everyone!
Things have got a bit harder on the cashback credit card scene recently. Either due to the drop in Bank of England interest rates or as fall-out from the credit crisis, almost all of the good 1% cashback cards are no longer available for new customers, e.g. the Egg Money Card or the Halifax 1% cashback cards or the citi 1% credit card.
People have mentioned the Shell Citi card but it only gives a discount on your next purchase of Shell petrol, and requires a minimum monthly spend on Shell fuel first.
Yes, the American Express card is still around, but as its special 5% rate is just for the first 3 months and not everywhere takes it, so I'm going to open one next year when I'm paying the car insurance/servicing etc in order to make the best use of the introductory rate.
Can anyone help out us fellow MoneySavers in this time of Recession?
Does ANYONE know of a 1% cashback credit card that is available to NEW customers? A copy of the web address would be appreciated by us all.
