  • In case anyone wanted to know i took Martin's advice and applied today for a platinum card.

Rather suspiciously it said they could not finalise the application and would let me know in 10 days by post......thats a coincidence that will be after the proposed change over in terms!

Do i smell a rat here? Lets just say i earn enough money and have no bad credit history - there is no possible reason for them not to process on these grounds.
  • Hi, sorry to be dumb but have recently got Amex card. When and how is cashback paid. I also have a capital one card and their cashback is knocked off your January statement - very hand for the festive excess! Can anyone advise? Many thanks
  • Hi...

Im just wondering how Amex might go about verifying that you satisfy the 20K min. annual salary?

Is this the sort of info that can be gleaned from a credit check?

I recently signed up for the freebie trials at experian and equifax, and the only possible bit of info that *might* give this away, is my current balance in my bank account. Though Im not sure how they could tell how much I earn per annum from this.

just for the record, I *dont* satisfy the 20K requirement.... so if this is something they can definitively find out, then obviously I wont be bothering!

It would be fraud to lie.

One way they can easily check is to call your employer.

What would be the other ways? , Could they check with the IR?
  • Hi, newbie here.

Following Martin's email, I tried to apply for the Amex Platinum cashback card online, via the Topcashback link. It's something I've been thinking of doing for a while, I was just waiting till I had some major spending to do ... but I'm sure I'll think of something! ;)

Anyway, I get as far as page 4 of the application - 'Additional Options' - then when I click 'continue', it goes back to page 1. I've tried several times over the last couple of days, but I never get past page 4.

Has anyone had the same problem and solved it? Will I have to apply by telephone instead - and miss out on £34 from Topcashback???

    TIA

. You have to be a member of the UW club though to get this benefit.

You bring your company into disrepute by posting misleading spam like this.

UW reps aren't allowed to post without declaring their interest.

You neglect to tell us that in order to get the discount you first have to use uw to supply you with a utility - and they are far from being the cheapest!

And you claim you get "cashback" (you don't - you never get any cash back, only discount off your uw bill) when you use the card at "most major stores".

Not so, you usually get nothing back at all when using the card. The discount is only given when using the card at certain uw nominated retailers (around just 25)

And you never manage 5% anyway, as there are fees to pay (the card costs £10, plus there are monthly charges to pay as well as a fee every time you top up the card).
  • Well, I kept trying and eventually worked out that the Amex site didn't like the way my address appears on its own automatic address finder - which is also the way the Post Office writes it!

I've applied now, but didn't get an instant decision, so may miss out on the 5% rate. Just have to wait and see ....
