  • Amex are poop. I applied, I earn 10k over their minimum income and they turned me down and didn't say why. No debts besides my student loan.

    Loada Rubbish!

It would be fraud to lie.

Thank you mother. I will consider my wrist duly smacked ;)
One way they can easily check is to call your employer.

And they would give out that sort of info as easily as that over the phone? hmmm.... that would surprise me. Data Protection Act?

Whats to stop me phoning up pretending to be Amex and finding out what my MD earns?
  • Like everyone else I am looking for the best home for my savings and noticed that my cash back egg money card offers 4% on positive balances. I have checked with EGG and it is is protected by the financial services compensation scheme. Anyone any experience of using their EGG 'Your Money' Card as a savings account? Any draw backs to using the card based scheme in this way? I always pay balance off anyway and realise that I will be doing this instantly if I have a positive balance but would struggle to get 4% in a savings account.

    Mal ;)
  • I wrote a couple of months ago about cashing a citi bank cheque, paying it off immeadiately to qualify for a 3% cash back, some people doubted my figures. Its turned out even better than I thought, not only am I getting the 3% I am getting the original I% as well. So far in 2 months I have got £240 back, I expect to get another £240 back till the promotional cashback stops on the 1st April and it reverts to the normal 1%. This all for an outlay of £18 in fees and interest. To get this amount of cash back I do spend at least £3000 on credit cards each month. So dont just rip up those unwanted cheques that come through the post, read the small print.
  • My husband is the main cardholder and I am the additional cardholder. Does the additional cardholder also qualify for the 5% cashback?

I've applied now, but didn't get an instant decision, so may miss out on the 5% rate. Just have to wait and see ....

Is the 5% rate likely to disappear soon?

  • Martin's article refers to deals for new customers, of which I would be one.

So, a question for those who have already got cashback cards:
Are more generous cashback cards made available by the credit card company to its existing cardholders?

P.S. This thread looks like an 'official' one that's lost it's 'sticky', as cashback is one of the main areas in relation to credit cards, is it not deserving of a berth at the top of the forum?

No, in fact usually the best deals are for new customers.

That's what I would have expected in line with most other financial products. Just checking it wasn't otherwise.

  • My husband and I both received our American Express platinum cards and our pin numbers followed. However his card was declined yesterday and mine was declined today. I spoke to AMEX who knew there was a problem with the cards (they blame the card maker) and are now re-issuing the cards. I have asked that the 3 month 5% interest period be extended to take this into account.
