Any shop that gives you cashback on a credit card is contravening their agreement with the credit card company and the CC company wouldn't look on it too kindly if they found out - that's not to say you can't get cash back on a CC, some shops do do it.

Why woulf the CC company care? - they're getting their extra fee for the additional transaction amount

I recently received my 5% cashback and as American Express were not willing to negotiate another run of introductory cashback, I decided to close my account.

Their terms & conditions aren't particularly clear on whether I can apply for the same credit card again?

I applied for the same card again. They even offered to transfer my credit limit from the original cashback card from which I'd already received my cashback. I agreed and am now on month 2 of the 3 months' 5%.
My husband will do the same when my three months is up!

Hi I have done same as hillybilly22, and I recently applied for a second AMEX cashback card. I haven't received a decision yet, but will let you know if it goes through.

As NickyDee says, it's all to do with the higher interest which is immediately applied to cash advances - buy £100 worth of goods and you get say 56 days interest free credit - if you go beyond that period you're charged interest at x%.

But if you take £100 from a cash machine, you immediately get charged interest at y% (where y is significantly higher than x).

By giving you cash and treating it as a purchase, the shop assistant is significantly reducing the card company's income.
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...

Hello, I was wondering if any of you can point me in the right direction to find out more info about this card [Shell Citicard] as I cannot find anything anywhere on the web and neither the bank nor barclaycard want to tell me much about it despite the fact that I have applied for one:confused:

You won't find anything on Barclaycard's site as it's a Mastercard!

    Info here: http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/gbr/products_services/on_the_road/card_services/shell_credit_card_from_citi/smc/

Unfortunately it looks like the introductory 6% on Shell fuel has stopped, but it still gives you 3% on fuel and 1% on other purchases. I'm still not sure why this card is not at least mentioned in the article.

I received my cashback in January and then opened a new account to start another 3 months' 5% cashback. The offered to transfer my credit limit from my old card (I hadn't cancelled it) which I did. They were completely aware that I'd only opened a new account to get the deal a second time. My husband will do the same next month!

  • Looking at the main site, Egg Money isn't mentioned but mine is still paying 1% (up to £200 pr year).

I'm not interested in introductory rates..... although last year I did the Amex Plat 5% and it's just paid out.....

    It's closed to new applicants.

I don't know why you felt the need to private message me the same post, but anyway...

If you have applied for a credit card then they should provide you with an update on the progress of your application. If you read the main article linked to this thread you will see that there are similar offers in the market.

I pm'd you hoping that I would get a speedier answer than logging onto this site again but then decided to post after pm'ing you just in case you didn't reply or could not help me with my question but thanks anyway
You have misunderstood my question as I want to know about the terms and conditions of use of the B/Card Platinum card that give 2% cashback on supermarket spending as the terms and conditions given to me by the bank were general ones and did not mention this specific card or it's terms of use.Neither the bank or b/card can provide literature/leaflets only word of mouth and that was fairly vague
I knew that i had been aproved when I left the bank and my card arrived a couple of days after applying there but the bank just told me 2% off supermarket shopping and had no literature to give me to read/keep and said to ask b/card if I want to know more but b/card tell me to ask at the bank>I cannot find more details on any site and it just seems as if there is some sort of big secret surrounding this card
I was hoping that someone who already has one could point me in the right direction to find out more - thanks to anyone who can

You must have misread my post - I did not make a mistake and I have the card now and have just checked it is barclaycard and not mastercard
