Can anyone help me please (non numerate!). We have a joint M&S card but they keep making mistakes on our account which take time and money to sort out. However the only supermarket within walking distance of us is M&S so we do use them for £50+ per week. I don't know how their reward voucher system works, but we do regularly get 5% off spending or £1 - 2 off purchases at M&S from them.
OH applied for a Barclaycard platinum in December which was accepted, but he was in a meeting when someone from India rang back to discuss the application so quite abruptly said "sorry I can't talk now, please call later", whereupon Ms Bangalore Call centre slammed down the phone and when HE called back, he found his application had suddenly been refused. So while we are in London and he uses TFL for £68 pm, it's not certain that BC would approve his application yet again - as the main earner, he has to be the main applicant. Plus he's none too thrilled with their CS as you can imagine.
The alternative is AMEX but I can't work out if an annual spend of about 10k would equate to a better deal than we are getting with M&S and Sainsburys Nectar (I use all Nectar points to deduct the cost of my shopping, at the till).
sorry for the long post but I've been delegated to find out!0 -
Hi All,
I had found out from Smile today that they are increasing their cashback from 5p in every £1 to 25p in every £1.
I have their cashback card and have been a happy customer for over a month now.
Hope this helps some peeps:ASpreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -

Hmm I wish - check it again it's actually gone from 0.5p to 0.25p (ie half a pence to quarter of a pence) This is a BAD thing
I wish you were right!0 -

Sorry, though you should know
25p/£1 would be pretty impressive
I think I might have to look for a better deal, I'm thinking the BA card to collect miles because I collect them anyway or maybe the priority club one to collect hotel points. Hmm not had the smile card for long so will still have a note re that on my credit file - hope it doesn't cause me any problems!0 -
........... and purchases don't get any of the normal protection you get when paying by card).
This is a really important point.
This is the credit card board so people would rightly assume they get Section 75 protection.
This is the problems with UW reps.
They don't put unbiased information up.
We would probaby still object if the information was correct, but the fact that they put up info that is biased towards their own personal vested interest makes them pretty depised around these parts.0 -
If you subscribe to Sky then don't forget Sky Card (Mastercard) which pays 1% on all purchases which can then be redeemed on-line against Sky subscriptions.

At least they've spelt it out clearly, and in advance - other banks take note.
And Egg Money are still paying 1% cashback on ALL spending.
So why doesn't Martin list it as the best cashback choice after Amex? Is there some catch I'm unaware of?
They're also improving their consumer protection terms eg extended warranty. I'd be interested to know how these compare with other cards.
No, I don't work for Egg.However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -
I Thought Egg Money was not available any more? To new applicants that is0

before you ditch and switch to a new better cashback deal it's worth speaking to old card companies first.
I have an eggmoney card where I'm getting 1% cashback on all spend.
I had an old Barclaycard which I haven't used for months. I phoned them to cancel it and they have offered me a 6 month deal of 2% cashback on the first £200 per month and 1.5% on the rest each month
Has anyone else had a similar success?
I've just applied for the new 1% Halifax card mentioned in the weekly email.
I was planning to keep my existing 0.5% Leeds BS/Barclaycard as backup, but wondered if I'm likely to be offered a deal to keep it if I asked them to cancel it.0
