  • Hi everyone.

In the last throws of an application for an Amex plat, but did I miss something in the Top Cashback card article.

300 quid annual fee?! Is this a new thing or was i just a dunce when I originally applied and missed it? This has potential of seriously killing the cashback benefit no?

Wrong card, confusingly there are two plats. You want the platinum cashback card, with no fee.

    From the T&C.

    13. FEES
No annual fee will be charged for the running of the account. We specifically reserve the right to vary, at our discretion, the circumstances in which fees are charged and the amount of any such fee(s). We will give you notice of any such variation in accordance with clause 22.

Unfortunately I can't have one so I can't comment further.
  • I guess I was being a dunce :-) Cheers for pointing that out gang :-)

How come no one has mentioned the Shell Credit Card

3% Cash Back on Shell fuel purchases in Great Britain
1% Cash Back when you use your card anywhere else

Seems to beat all Martin's Best Buys!!!!

I am delighted with my 5% back cash back card from the Utility Warehouse. It works in Sainsbury for groceries (and petrol too if I spend £50 on groceries in previous 14 days - not a challenge!), Debenhams, Boots, Argos, Comet, Mothercare, Homebase, and many other (but not all) shops. The cash-back comes off my already low Utility Bills.

Same question as before - how does this work?

I got the Amex Platinum card.
Big disappointment was to discover that they gave me a credit limit of £700 for the first 6 months!
They say it's not due to my income (higher than £20K) but this is the 'normal' procedure.
I would say this is the clever procedure!!! This is not fair at all!!!

In this way I cannot use the card as I planned to, and I'm not able to get the best cash back deal:
'a bonus of 5% (5p per £1 spent) on everything for the first three months'

I don't know if I'm the only one out there with this issue but I believe they use this 'trick' with a lot of people!!

    BE AWARE!

    Hi Muay,

There is a way around that limit (if you want to get all the cashback) - but it is very annoying.

Keep paying it off evey week (or earlier if you spend more than £700 a week), and if you know you will have a big purchase that you go over the liimt - then load the card first before buying.

As I said earlier, it's very annoying, but it's a way round it.

Not sure how 'normal' the procedure is, as my limit is higher than £700 - unless they mean, it's normal to lock the limit for 6 months initially?

You should still receive the cash back of 5% up to a maximum of £2,000.00 spend over the first three months. If you use the credit card up to its maximum limit of £700.00 on all three occassions it will equal £2,100.00 anyway - potentially a good thing.

The other option, as someone has already said, is to pre-load the card with funds or pay it off more frequently.

Careful with this approach ... it may be forbidden in the T&Cs to bring the card into a positive balance. So check it out before you do it!

    Thanks for the answers guys.
The only really annoying thing is this credit limit, I need to pay too much attention to how much I am spending on the card being careful not to go over the limit if I don't wont to pay £12 of fee!
It would be nice to have a limit that you simply cannot overcome. If that happens then your card simply wouldn't work.
