I have a Capital One cashback credit card which gives 5% for the first 3 months, then 1% on all purchases. This is not mentioned in the list of cashback credit cards. Anyone know why?
Is it perhaps not open to new customers? I can't see anything on the Capital One website, and I think only cards that are accepting new customers are eligible for inclusion on the list.0 -
we got this Amex card a while ago when Martin first recomended it but we're constantly dissapointed by the number of retailers who don't accept it - OK to use it at the big outlets but thats only a small %age of our total spend - I dont think we got anywhere near the 5% cashback.0

Other cashback cards, like the Halifax one I've just got pay 1% cashback which can be used in most places.
There is a HUGE amount of deals you can use it on, so it is hardly limited at all (holidays to RAC and everything in between). There is bound to be something you can use it on.
Tesco's Clubcard Plus card is better than the Credit Card (unless you have the reallly old credit card with the better points ratio) as it gives double clubcard points and works out about 8% cashback if you use the points on deals.
Have another card for Non-Tesco's purchases, as mentioned, I also like the Shell Credit Card for petrol (2%) and 1 % everthing else.0 -

My point was more that the 1% (or more) cashback cards earn you universally accepted cash, or credit your card account which frees up money elsewhere.
The Tesco credit card offers a maximum 1% when used for clubcard deals, and most of those deals could be bought cheaper elsewhere.
Places light Lightwater Valley are a good deal as tokens can be used to buy family tickets, and I've not found discounted tickets anywhere.
Many places offer BOGOF, money off vouchers or some other discount which can't be used with Tesco's coupons so for them using cash would give a better return.
As for 8% on clubcard/plus. Good - yes. But nothing to do with the credit card.
...Unless you can use clubcard plus to double up the 1 point per £4. If so please let me know because I don't know how.0 -
You can certainly now use VISA and Mastercard at my local ones - just not AMEX.
It's only the Scottish ALDI stores that are accepting credit cards (but not AMEX) at the moment. Don't know if they plan to extend it to other parts of the UK. Their 'weekly deals' booklet states this on the back next to the methods of payment accepted.0 -

Tesco Credit Card (last time looked) earned 4pts for every £5 spent.
£500 spend = 400 pts = £4 spend in store = £16 deals
Therefore approx 3.2% cashback - much better than 1% !!
Tesco Clubcard Plus - double points on shop at Tesco or Tesco Fuel
£50 = 100pts = £1 spend in store = £4 deals
Therefore approx 8% cashback - even better than 1% !!!!
Granted only on Tesco's spends, but use the Shell Credit Card for everything else (2% fuel and 1% everything else) and you have hell of a combination!!:D:D:D:D

The Clubcard vouchers obtained as a result can be cashed in at Tesco, with 1 point = 1 penny (actual return being 0.25%).0 -
Hi all,
Apologies, I've been slightly lazy and haven't read through all the pages in this thread!
If I added my Halifax/RBS card as another card in my Paypal account, would Paypal payments still apply for cashback when this card is used?
I hope that makes sense!?Slowly reducing my 8.5k of debt!0 -
Assuming you are talking about actually buying goods and services and not just transferring money, then yes, you get cashback.
I use my Egg Money card with paypal for ebay items all the time.
If you were transferring money then that might be different as it might be classed as a money trasnfer or cash advance rather than a purchase.0 -
