According to a letter I received today from Bank of America (MBNA) the Amazon Mastercard and the Amazon Mastercard Loyalty points system will end on 30th September 2014. After that the Amazon Mastercard will be switched to MBNA. Amazon have made no announcement about this at all on their website.0

I received the same letter. Now looking for a new credit card as I assume no rewards or cashback will apply to the new MBNA card.0

yep i am in the same boat. may have to go with the 123 one as i have an account with them.0

I reckon the best short-term bet for Amex spend is the Lloyds Choice Rewards that reclusive46 posted nearly a year ago!
It's about 1.5% cashback on Amex for the first (6?) months, plus a rubbish 0.3% on Mastercard, but you also get interest free for 13 months
So for the first 6 months, on Amex, you're earning 1.5% plus perhaps a further 1.5% net for a higher rate tax payer on the slow-stoozed purchases, putting the money into a regular saver ready to pay off the CC in a year.
Alternatively there's Tesco (points worth perhaps 0.75% on average plus a large 18+ month interest free, so after 6 months the Tesco card would be giving more than the Lloyds)0 -
This one (1.25%) looks to be about the best of the bunch now for higher spenders:
https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/content/platinum-cashback-credit-card/
£25 annual fee but:
5% cashback on up to £2,500 of purchases in your first 3 months of Card membership
2.5% cashback on all purchases for one month every year if you spend more than £10,001 in your previous 12 months of Card membership
An ongoing 1.25% cashback on virtually every full pound you spend
£21 cashback if you apply through Topcashback.
Not perfect (because of the fee, and because Amex isn't universally accepted - you'll need a second card) but if you spend a fair bit on your card it's likely to be worth switching to.0 -
Wow so MBNA quitting a lot of loyalty schemes then... I had a devil of a job getting shot of them too... a very un-hilarious back and forth about the "benefits" of a normal MBNA card, threatening me that I can NEVER darken their doors again if I leave (well boo hoo)...

Same here. No more points after 30th Sept when it gets changed into a straight forward MBNA card. No real problem with MBNA as that's all the Amazon/BoA card was anyway - BoA own MBNA and it's their primary brand for issuing cards............. but that's not the point. The original point was the rewards. Amazon vouchers not quite as good as cash but I do buy things from Amazon from time to time anyway so almost as good a 1p per £1 to me.
Obviously the MBNA card will be going in the bin and the account closed as soon as I get any outstanding points converted to vouchers but then what? Where's the next best reward/cashback offer?
For me must be no fee (matter of principle) and no Amex.
Visa or MasterCard, don't mind. What's everyone's thoughts?
Me, I do have a Nationwide 'bank' account anyway and so have a Select Credit Card which is 0.5% cashback, no fee, Visa but anyone know of a better option?0 -
I currently have a barclaycard which I pay off every month but I'm about to cut it up as I've has enough of their poor customer service.
Looking for no Annual fee.
No supermarket loyalty cards as there's only a tesco where I live.
Low APR.
Whats good at the moment?0 -

Just a note for all those who have their doubts about whether the Amex Platinum card is worth the effort...
I've had mine for a good number of years - admittedly so long that my top cashback rate is 1.5% not 1.25%, despite Amex trying to tempt me to change by offering better rates at lower spends. I put all costs I can on it, including work expenses. Whenever I have the option to pay for something with PayPal, I take it - as it goes on the Amex card. Fuel, groceries, train tickets, flights, all go on the Amex.
This years cashback, for doing nothing other than use the card, will be nearly £500. To me it's not "why?", it's "why not?"0
