I tried the TOP cash back site for changing tariffs on my N Power account.
Every time I phoned N Power they kept saying they had no record of my change. In the end N Power gave me the cash back themselves.0 -
Asda Money pays 1% on Asda purchases and 0.5% on everything else, unlimited no fee. Is there much better than that non-Amex cash not points?0

I just applied for one as a backup for my Amex, it looks to be one of the best currently available, especially since the cashback is actually cash and paid monthly.0 -
I use Amex Platinum for most purchases, and have a Capital One card that is about to stop offering cashback. What's the best option at the moment without a fee?
With most purchases going on Amex, and my low mileage/petrol spend, I'm not sure the £24 fee for the Santander card is good value for me. I also don't really want to go down that road (paying for a credit card that the bank makes big money on anyway) because it'll only encourage them!
The only other currently recommended card is 0.5% for those with poor credit. What's the highest cashback rate available on a "general use" fee-free card at the moment? I.e. not just in one certain shop (Tesco, Asda, ...) or on certain types of purchase (petrol, etc.), but for all purchases anywhere? Is there still a 1% available somewhere?0 -
I think my above post from January still applies - 0.5% is the best you can do and the Asda card is a decent choice (0.5% everywhere, cashback credited to the account each month).
Plus I now see in the MSE article that "Asda has confirmed it will continue to keep its cashback rate despite the change in EU regulations on interchange fees" :-)0 -
Whenever I have the option to pay for something with PayPal, I take it - as it goes on the Amex card. Fuel, groceries, train tickets, flights, all go on the Amex.
I was glad to read your post,
I am struggling to set up AMEX as my payment on paypal as it is linked to my bank account. can you advise how I override that possibly?0 -

I am in exactly the same position as you and came on to the site to find an answer to the same question. My research tells me that if you travel by train or tube (I do) you get 3% on travel with santander 123. I pay £134 a month travel and the calculator on their site says I get 48 back a year on that. Which leaves me 24 cashback after the fee. Amex would give me 1.25% so 21.
I thnk I might go to santander and use it for travel at least and dept stores at 2%.
Do you think I am missing something?0 -

£48 a year. not per month.
Amex would give you £20.
But with a £24 annual fee, they're close. If you have a car that you refuel often that could help widen that gap.5.41 kWp System, E-W. Installed Nov 2017

It does seem that santander might be possible winner.0 -
If you bank with Halifax and have a reasonable spend, surely Halifax Clarity is hard to beat. If you spend £300 per month, you get a fiver (£60p/a) so ~1.5-1.6% cashback depending on how much you overshoot by. You get nothing for £299.99 though so only good for those that know they can easily do that each month.
I use my credit cards in order of:
Halifax for everything (until I reach £300)
Amex
Tesco Credit Card
Next year though I may ditch the Amex unless I forsee large purchases coming up, due to the 3k p/a spend threshold to actually get the cashback. It's hard to predict though with the changes in the market due to the EU interchange cap coming in.0
