    Next year though I may ditch the Amex unless I forsee large purchases coming up, due to the 3k p/a spend threshold to actually get the cashback.n.

    This is a good point and i need to consider that in my calculations.

    Can you tell me a bit more about halifax situation? I haven't found it on this site..

    If you spend £300 per month, you get a fiver

    Am I right in thinking you need a current account for this? and put so much in it?
    Is it any clarity card or was there a special incarnation?

    They don't seem to advertise it, but if you look in the t&c of their Clarity card the fiver is in there. I only found out about it when I saw it mentioned on the forum. I then looked at the t&c and there it was, so I called them up and they confirmed I could get it. I've had a few fivers now :)

    but it's not available to everyone is it?
    11.2 - To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-

    (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.

    Nope, hence my original post mentioning you have to bank with Halifax. ;)

    I was glad to read your post,
    I am struggling to set up AMEX as my payment on paypal as it is linked to my bank account. can you advise how I override that possibly?
    Not easy - it costs PayPal more so they try to discourage it by making everything default to a bank account if you have one set up.

    It's a while since I did it, but from memory you have to make sure that any bank accounts you have linked to remain unconfirmed. Take them off if they're confirmed already, and start again. If there's no confirmed bank account, it should default to your Amex card.
  • Hi all,

    Reading the Amex (fee) cashback guide and it states that
    you'll get a max of £125 cashback in the first three months (5% on up to £2,500 spending). After that, all spending attracts one flat rate of cashback
    Can anyone clarify what happens on spending above £2,500 in those three months? I am looking at getting this card and spend an average of £1,700 per month. Will I get 0% on the extra £2,600 or will it then get 1.25%?

    You'll get 1.25%

  • One last question. Does anyone know what the Credit Limit range is for the Amex cards? Their website says "variable", but quotes assumptions of £1,200, which seems awfully low.

    Will likely range on your history, income, your relationship with them.

    I've used them since '03 and have had multiple cards that I've merged the credit limits of over time, so my limit is currently £30k.
