  • I had an egg last night that was 12 days past the date and it was fine so it should be okay!

I don't even look at the dates any more. If I am very concerned, I do the sink/float test, but usually just crack into something else before adding to other ingredients. If an egg is off, you will smell and see it!

Ditto:) With eggs at least anyway.
My grandpa used to have hens (quite a few) and therefore we obviously never had dates on eggs, just common sense - does it smell? No? Then eat it.

Yup, if they sink they should be OK (if they float, it's a def "no").

When we get ours from the farm shop, they say they're fine for 7 days after the use by date but they are limited to what they can put on as the date (but would always test whether they float first).

    Rubbish.

You can't possibly know if an egg is usable until you crack it. You'll know pretty soon then, though, if it's past it.:rotfl:

  • If the eggs sinks and lies on it's side,it's fresh.

If it sinks but sits upright,it's less fresh, but still ok.

    If it floats,bin it.

    HTH.

Eat them!-Older eggs are much easier to peel when hard boiled than new eggs-Google "hard boiled egg recipes"-lots to explore.

Sorry but this is just wasteful, as others have said, crack it into another container, like a cup, if an egg is off you will soon smell it and maybe gag

If it is not off, regardless of floating, date etc, it is fine to eat it

Just to echo what a fair few have said and I do this for in-date eggs too, because once i needed 4 eggs for a cake i was making and you guessed it first 3 all ok # 4 was off so i had to throw them and the flour i'd sieved  lucky i hadnt got any further then that.
crack them first into a small cup , I often used the egg cup from the poacher cos its the right size
then add it to what ever your making - believe me u will soon see and smell if its off
