Dates on eggs / how long do they keep for?

I have eggs in the fridge and I don't know whether I can eat them or not. They were bought at a farm shop about a week ago. How can you tell if an egg is still edible, I would rather throw them away than get salmonella.
Thank you
Thank you

eggs keep for ages. not sure what the 'official' line is but we regularly eat eggs more than a week old.
use your nose, eggs will definately let you know if they are off- prior planning prevents poor performance!

You could try the old trick of putting them in a bowl of water - if they float, throw them away, and if they sink they're ok. To avoid salmonella, just make sure that you cook the eggs throughly0

We sometimes keep eggs for weeks, both in and out of the fridge, and have never to my recollection had a bad one. Vixtress is right you won't be in any doubt if you crack it open.0

Eggs keep for weeks and weeks. We used to get them fresh laid from an egg guy (well, his chickens!) and they'd keep for about 12 weeks.0

I've eaten them months out of date with no ill-effects. Whilst I wouldn't recommend doing that on a normal basis, a week (or several) isn't going to hurt.0

I would also put them in water. If they stay at the bottom on their side they are fresh, if the stay on the bottom but stand upright then they are okay to use but are less fresh, and if they float throw them away.0

Morning all,
Have just opened my fridge and found 6 eggs dated the 18th!! Will these be ok to use? Can I leave them for a couple more days? I hate waste, just overlooked these little eggs this week really don't want to waste them.
Thanks in advance

They should be fine. If you're not sure, put them in some cold water. If they float to the top - bin 'em!!!!! If they stay at the bottom, or just stand up a little bit they are ok.0

Just stick them in a dish of water
If they float, dispose of very carefully:eek:
If they stay at the bottom, they are fine.
