Last night I used eggs that were 5 days *out of date*. They weren't date-stamped in your grandmother's day, and they lived to tell the tale! Do the water test, they'll be fine:D

I hate these Sell By dates, I think they are just a scam to get us to throw away food which is really OK.

They are a Sell By and allow a period to use after that anyway. I totally ignore them but use my eyes and nose.

    Morning all,

Have just opened my fridge and found 6 eggs dated the 18th!! Will these be ok to use? Can I leave them for a couple more days? I hate waste, just overlooked these little eggs this week really don't want to waste them.

    Thanks in advance

I agree completely, I always use me eyes and nose to tell if a food is bad or not, never the use by date (which is simply a guideline anyway).
  • I've had eggs in my fridge which were *months* out of date and used them. I'll regularly use them weeks afterwards; wouldn't even bat an eyelid at something over just a couple of days.

I never keep my eggs in the fridge at all any more.
Never had a problem, but then we do tend to use them up.

Yes, I would have no qualms using these either. The water test is good or break them individually into a cup just in case one is off. If they are off you will definitely know!
