that's a bit negative, saying your child won't thank you for being a summer baby. naughty midwife! just think of the birthday parties you can have when baby is small, proper moneysaving picnics in the park instead of hiring a venue, lots of sunshine :D

my SIL is due in august and has been told off by the midwife because she's gained 3 pounds this month! she's been told she can't gain more than a pound a month, and has been given a food diary to fill in!! i was gobsmacked, i was never weighed during my pregnancy and i don't think her BMI is much higher than mine pre-pregnancy. nobody made me feel like a fat blimp. poor girl!
i think i probably gained more than 3 pounds in the early months just in my breasts collecting extra water, it was nothing to do with eating chips.

Then she got her disc out and looked up my due date and said "That child is not going to thank you when it starts school!"

When I was little, I loved being born in August. I worked out that I was never more than 4 months away from Easter, Christmas or my Birthday, so there was always some gifts to look forward to :D

When school came round, my Mam had the choice of sending me at just turned 4, or waiting a year and sending me at 5. I went at 4 and was always the youngest in the class. Never did me any harm though, and was in the top streams for GCSE's, then went on to do maths, chemistry and physics at A Level.

I think it's more how they are taught at home in their early years, rather than their birthday when they get to school age.

Thanks for the reassurance folks! Actually I wasn't that worried, though I am kind of hoping for a girl because I think they tend to cope better with going to school at a young age. My youngest sister was born on July 31st and was the youngest in her class but she never had a problem either. And Becles, I think you're right, I grew up in a very educationally-minded family environment so I think we all got off to a pretty good start even before we went to school.

    Hi Guys,
Quick update for you as i'd forgotten that i'd worte on this thread.

Went to have the scan and was informed that it was very large and my dates were wrong even though my LMP was October

So i was the 18 weeks and not 12 as i thought !!

i'm now 23 weeks and went for my final scan last week and it was amazing, i have some lovely pictures and we found out that it was a little boy :j

I can feel him moving and kicking around now which is the most bizzare feeling ever, and my waistline is starting to expand at an enormous rate

My mum / friends have told me that i shouldn't buy any newborn stuff as i look like i'm going to have a bit of a heffalump

All of the boys in my family have been big, my cousin was 9lb 11oz and my brother was 10lb 7 oz  and all of the other boys have been over 9lb  to say that i'm not looking forward to that is a slight understatement.

I'm off on holiday on the 1st May for 2 weeks and i can't wait to just lay and relax by the pool, the midwife has said that it should be no problem and that he will write me a letter as i will be over 28 weeks when i fly.

Has anyone had experience of flying quite late in their pregnancy and where can i get insurance from

Thanks guys for all of your kind words :A

    I loved that feeling!

Wait until he's a bit bigger and you're in the bath. You'll see limbs poking out through your tummy. That's even more bizzare, but funny too!

I had a great book when I was pregnant (my bible) it covered pre-birth to age 5 and I don't know what I would've done without it. I've given it to a friend now who says the same. I think ity was this one although the cover has changed

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1405311177/qid=1143204153/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3_3/202-4949969-8969418
    I haven't got one!

I haven't really brought any books, i find that reading on the internet is better although i think i've read a bit too much for my own good, i had a bit of a panic attack the other day when i was reading about labour

Emma's diary is really good and Bounty

i don't know if the books really cover anything that's not mentioned in the bounty and emma's diary pregnancy books you'll be given. i think the midwife gives you an emma's diary collection card at the booking in appointment, and either a bounty pack or a card to collect one from mothercare. sometimes stocks run out for months at a time so if you haven't had the claim cards make sure you ask if they're in stock again.

i bought the miriam stoppard pregnancy book but it was a bit preachy i thought. it not very subtly implied that if you weren't having a drug free home birth you were making the wrong decision.

if you want a little guide with pics for what your baby looks like each week etc. i think there's always one in the baby magazines such as prima baby, or pregnancy and birth magazine (concentrates mainly on pregnancy and birth, most other mags have sections for toddlers, babies, etc).
