Pregnancy

Hi,

Can anyone help me? Has anyone got any advice on books to read to give advice on getting pregnant. I bought some ovulation tests and have tried these for a few months without any luck. They are quiet expensive so wondered if anyone could recommend a book that tells you signs to look out for so you know when it is the correct time.

Thanks

There arnt any as far as I know. But ovulation is roughly half way between the start of one period and the start of the next. Just dont get too stressed about it.

  • There is a good book called Taking control of your fertility - or somthing similar to that. It teaches you to read your bodys signals for ovulation.

It's all to do with monitoring your body temp.
  • According to my research, your ovulation date is 14 days before your period (no matter how long your cycle) and it's worth trying for the preceding three days too. And you're more likely to succeed if you don't get stressed about it!
  • No sorry this is incorrect. The OP should get and read 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler. I have a 60 day cycle and we are ttcing, the books is very interesting.., basically onew of the signs for ovulation is when the cervical fluid goes like egg white, clear and stretchy, this is strong sign of ovulation and means you are at most fertile. If you take your temp every morning 2/3 days of elevated temps mean you have ovulated the day before the 1st heightened temp. If you wnat to chart your temp and fertility signs see https://www.fertilityfriend.com. Also look at other message boards such as https://www.hitched.co.uk, look at Baby Talk board, lots of people TTC'ing on there! gfood luck..

I second the recommendation for "Taking control of your fertility" by Toni Welcher, it's available form Amazon. I didn't have a cycle as such as I had just come off the pill so didn't know where to start (and the ovulation 14 days before your period thing is a complete myth, every woman is different) I took it's recommendations in conjunction with ovulation tests & charting my tempreature (the book tells you how to do this) for just 3 weeks, realized I was about to ovulate & now have a 15 week old son!

Also, if you are regulary using ovulation predictors, buy them in bulk from ebay. I got 100 from Australia, with P & P they cost me £20, better than £20 for 3 from Boots and obvioulsy just as accurate! ( I have about 90 left!)

Also there a product called 'ovulite' in america which save a lot of money buying tests all the time. All the best.

Also aside from books, remember to relax and try not to concentrate too much on getting pregnant as this can actually slow down the process (easier said than done I know!) - let nature take it's course and if you have been trying a year and getting nowhere then see your GP.

  • Yeah agree with Brokeass goto https://www.babycentre.co.uk is an excellent resource and a nice friendly forum on there to talk to others about conception, pregnancy and birth. I also agree try not to stress about it too much, we were trying for 18 months before it finally happened for us and now in 19 days (+/- 2 weeks) I am going to be a dad :)
