Don't make love every night, keep it once a week. The less you make love, the higher and more concentrated your husbands sperm count will be when you do.

Sorry, I don't know who told you this but its totally wrong info. Hubby and I are trying (still) and he has to do a sperm count test and the hospital has given us guidelines he has to follow to do the test. They say that the best time to do the test is between 3-5 days after last ejaculation. Less than 3 days and the count is low and more than 5 days and the sperm start to die. They have recommended us to make love every 3-4 days as thats when sperm is at its best.

Sorry if my post sounds rude but I wanted to clarify.

    Shelly,

Hope they told him to keep it warm and to get it to hospital asap. My OH was given no advice for first test just a pot and it wasn't good enough. Second one he was told to get it there quickly and warmly! Absolutely fine. He also took some vitamin and mineral supplements (I think vit e was important) as this helps.

  • Re ovulation kits, we used one and I got pregnant first month. Just very good luck maybe, but knowing the day of ovulation probably helped.

    Hi Guys,

Wasn’t sure whether to carry on this thread or start a new one so if you think it’s off track feel free to move me ;)

I just wanted to talk to you guys about my Doctors appointment on Friday.

This is my 1st pregnancy and I’m only 8 weeks gone this week, so this is my first appointment since I found out I was pregnant.

So this is how my appointment went.

Doctor: Yes what seems to be the problem

M: Well I was told to make an appointment as I took a pregnancy test last Saturday and it was positive.

D: Oh …………………………. Are you pleased?

M: Well yes of course I am

D: Oh ……………. Well congratulations I suppose, I think I’ve got a few leaflets about pregnancy here, let me have a look (Ruffles about in her draws for a minute) umm Nope I haven’t sorry about that

    M: oh ok then

D: Right …….. Have you been taking Folic Acid?

    M: no

    D: WHY NOT (Shouting)

M: Well I didn’t really know I was going to get pregnant

D: Well have you been trying?

M: well yes I suppose so as I’ve been off of the pill since June but I didn’t realise I had to take it from then.

D: do you know what Folic Acid is for?

M: umm well I think it’s something to do with your bones isn’t it?

D: NO IT IS NOT (Shouts again) It is for stopping Spinabifida (sp) you are supposed to take it in the early stages of pregnancy to prevent it, but you’ve passed that stage already so it’s really not worth giving you any ……..Oh well I suppose I’d better though Sigh.

M: Oh ok then thank you.

D: Right let me see (Starts writing on the keyboard) folic acid there we are, every day………. Wait a moment (picks up a medical book) hmm NO I was wrong I was going to prescribe you the wrong dosage that’s lucky isn’t it

    M: laughs nervously

    D: Do you smoke?

    M: Yes

D: You need to stop now

M: Yes I know, I have actually been very good and have already cut down from 20 – 5 a day and I’m aiming to stop ASAP.

D: THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH, YOU NEED TO STOP NOW NOW NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!

    M: oh

D: If you want to kill yourself by smoking and causing your own death then I don’t care but there is another human being involved now and you should think about that young lady!

    M: oh ok then

D: Have you got any household pets?

    M: yes I have 2 cats

D: KEEP AWAY FROM THEM THEY ARE DANGEROUS TO YOU whispers – mind you I had cats when I had my children and I was fine.

    M: hmm

D: Well that’s it, I don’t have to examine you or anything, just make sure you book an appointment with a midwife before you leave, goodbye

I had to go to reception and the girl and me had to work out my due dates etc.

Am i over reacting because when i got home i was in tears, i don't know what i was expecting but it wasn't that. _pale_

Cullumpster- did he say he would get midwife to contact you. I had a 'booking in' appt with my last one (she's 2) don't know if they still do this. You could then talk thru everything with your midwife.
    Have sent you a PM

    What a horrid experience.

When my sister was pregnant she had 2 cats (still does)...she just had to keep well away from the litter tray. She actually rather like it as it meant that someone else had to do that 'nice' job for a while. Can't remember the precise reason, but I know that it can pass something onto the baby that isn't too nice.

Her little boy (now 20 months) has great fun bouncing on the cat...yes you read right bouncing. Cat lays somewhere....little boy comes along and sits on him and bounces up and down. Fortuantely the cat is as soft as anything and doesn't care.

    Oh....and congratulations.

God, that's appalling! I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Now that home tests are so accurate it is a bit of a disappointment as you do at least expect a check up or something, and they don't seem to bother. You will get the information from your midwife at your booking in appointmen, so please try to forget about this appointment. They normally have the leaflets but again your midwife will help you. Tell her about the doctor though, she may be able to take it further.

Well done on the smoking. Folic acid will be fine from now. Imagine how many pregnancies are a surprise.

Have a look on https://www.babycentre.co.uk and they will have all the info you need.

Good luck, I hope it all goes ok for you.

ps Forgot about the cat thing -we have four and they are fine. The poo can pass on toxoplasmosis I think, which can cause miscarriage. Just don't have any contact with it without rubber gloves, or ask someone else to do the litter. Watch out if gardening too. Sorted and not really something to panic about!

Well that wasn't a very pleasant experience for you was it? :(

    First... CONGRATULATIONS!!! :j

Right! Folic acid.... if you eat fortified breakfast cereals and green veg then you've had some folic acid anyway, even some milk has folic acid added so there are many small way that you could have ingested it. Take it as soon as you can but please don't worry about not having taken it for the past 8 weeks.

Cats: If you have litter trays then wear gloves and wash your hands after cleaning it. Wash your hands after stroking them and before eating or preparing meals. Millions of people have cats while they're pregnant and they're no more dangerous than crossing the road... you know the risks, you deal with the risks and you're safe.

Smoking: well you already know the down sides of that, it raises your blood pressure, decreases oxygen to the placenta and increases your baby's heart rate. Very well done for cutting down so much, I hope you have the strength to quit, not just for your babe but for you too.... so that you have a long, happy and healthy life. (there's a thread in the arms for people who are trying to stop smoking and there's always lots of support :) )

So..... when are you due? :j
Just run, run and keep on running!

    Thanks guys,

I was just a bit upset i suppose as i was so excited and she just put me down and made me feel stupid :(

I thought that she would at least have taken another test to see if i am actually preganant, i mean i know i am but how does she
I'm due on or around August 4th, i sort of already knew that as i'd spoken to someone on here.

I know someone who was simply asked which test she had taken...the response....right we'd better book you in for a scan then. THey didn't do another pregnancy test, just believed and booked her in. A lot of these home kit tests are very reliable.
