    hi all,

i brought a 26" tv from dell and after a week and half asked for a new one as mine had hissing speakers. After double checking witht he dell rep that tv would be new... guess what came.... a refurbished tv in a very poor state... got in contact with dell everyday since to be told that a "Meeting is happening today and a anwser would be made" on 5 diffrent occasions! Utter Garbage!

After them delaying me more and promised phone calls from managers what didnt happen i got in contact with trading standards who advised me to act now before it to late.

Sent a letter complaing and giving then 5 days to deliver me a new working 26" tv else i would be taking legal action in the way of the loss of bargain act. Spoke today to a manager Ewan Taylor who informed me that the only two options i had were to take a refund or exsept the refurb with some vouchers thrown in.

This i declinde and said i would be pursueing the loss of bargain act...

So yea im in the same situation as alot of you guys, however do you guys know who to speak to at dell regarding the loss of bargain act i can't seem to find anyone to tlak to about hwo knows what im talking about. how did you guys get succsess.

Been following this at another forum and i can confirm others who have brought the tv from scan or else where have had the extra refunded after some pushing.

owey used this email to follow his up I think: gillian_larkin@dell.com

My only concern is what happens if the one you get sent is faulty, do dell reply it with a broken refurb like they seem to have done to those who managed to get one from Dell, or is it scan or ebuyers problem?

Trouble is Owey do you trust Dell to stick to their word and refund the difference ??

Scan & aria both claim to have stock of these tvs - i'm tempted but dealing with Dell thus far doesn't instill me with confidence to say the least.

I've sent a response to their vouchers offer (that they could shove em I want a tv) to gillian larkin but have heard nothing back yet.

hope you do get the difference refunded Owey
All I can say is, if they don't give me the difference, which I think they will, its just more ammo to take to court in the New Year.
  • RESULT:

yesterday at noon i was called by dell customer relations and was offered £120 extra on top of my money back for the price of a similar (but slightly bigger) replacment TV which i'd sourced. The chances of getting a 32" TV looked bleak- i didnt want to push it and end up with a refurbished 26" like many people have- so i took the difference.
if you write to anyone you need the 'customer relations' department and the VP's. make 'important' people accountable for the running of the firm they're in charge of and your problems will be fixed. good luck!

do you mind saying which TV and where you purchased it from? They refunded you the difference even though it wasn't a Dell TV?..or was it.
  • I too have been given an address in Ireland to send the receipt to for a refund in difference (I bought the W2600 from Scan). Out of interest, those of you claiming the difference, are you claiming the difference including VAT & delivery, or just the difference in the net price? Upon reading the details for "loss of bargain", it seems to exclude tax.

You need to add on your 'sourcing' fee too :)

Just got an email from Dell confirming the refund policy but saying they will not refund you over £150, so far the cheapest seems to be Scan.co.uk at £528.27. Does anyone know of any cheaper? I think I'll go for it at that price as it's just a little over the £513 boundary.
