I hope the "Horrendous smearing, blurring and ghosting and a very very grainy picture" would have been picked up by all the reviews out there. You can return your TV within 7 days of receipt for any reason, you should have infomation or phone Dell for the returns procedure. I think they might charge £13 returns fee.

Maybe I expected too much, as I have always used CRT monitors and TV's, but the quality on the Dell TV is what I class as unwatchable. I think it was designed mainly for high definition and PC use (as the desktop display was fine, just like a normal monitor), but every other signal I tried was very bad. XBox 360 will probably look good but if you have a large DVD collection, forget it. Pick up a 28" CRT.

On a plus point, the build quality and looks were superb.

I have received mine too. I found the TV to be OK from 3 metres with a second RF feed from SKY+. Not great at all but OK. So I thought it was just the source. So try DVDs...

    DVD
My DVDS looked better in still but there was smearing and artifacting in movement I will try through component next but SCART looked bad. So I thought as tv was not smearing it must be that. I'll look into it.

Bad news folks. Got the TV last night, set it up and got everything going. It looks the part, but DVD quality and TV quality is bloody awful. I would say DVD's are unwatchable. Horrendous smearing, blurring and ghosting and a very very grainy picture. PC display is quite good, but again, if you play DVD's via your PC, you will still get smearing and terrible colour reproduction (although not as bad as through a stand alone DVD player).

When watching 'The Thing', you could hardly see anything in the dark scenes.
I heard LCD's were not as good as CRT's, but this is a joke. My 12 year old Toshiba is far far better.

Can I return this to DELL? as it is simply not even close to being good enough.

I think you need to set the thing up properly before passing final judgement.

Were you using a progressive scan output ? And were you using the TV or the player to deinterlace ?

I connected my Toshiba 330e using high quality Scart leads and then Component leads. I tried changing all the settings on the TV and my DVD player, but the basic picture was simply very poor. I could improve it a little by changing the settings, but it was nothing compared to my CRT. The smearing was terrible, and the detail levels rubbish. I watched all of 'aliens' and it actually ruined the movie. In dark scenes there was no detail at all.

Basically I think the 25ms is nowhere near enough for fast paced DVDs and games. I expected a little ghosting now and then, but not ever single scene. Even Gamecube games looked poor. I think I will just buy a cheap 32" CRT as the difference is like night and day. They might not look good, but they work fine.

It's a shame as the TV looks great and was good for PC use, but for DVD's it was shocking.

To be honest, it was daft of me buying it as I have no HD stuff to watch. I'm sure HD stuff will look better, but that's years away (unless you get an xbox 360).

Sore tempted by this. Like many ppl, I'm baffled by all the AV signal types. I would use it with two signals mainly: Freeview via SCART (Goodmans GDB3 box) and MCE2005 PC which has component out. Given the worries people are expressing about picture quality, can I expect a decent picture from these?

My W2600 arrived this morning (ordered last Friday). We have digital cable and the picture is *F*A*N*T*A*S*T*I*C*.

I was slightly worried ordering this 'sight unseen' as my hubby has been checking out LCDs for a while now - but it is definitely the best we have seen. No smearing etc., the DVDs play brilliantly, and it can be viewed from all angles of my lounge without any loss of picture quality.

We are delighted and would like to that OP for this tip.

  • I too have just received my tv. Being a non-techie I am at a loss as to what all connections are for? All I have done so far is connected sky via SCART and have to say it is most unimpressive and terrestrial channels are shocking!
Picture is very grainy and nowhere near as clear as my mid range CRT tv, it is bearable as a previous poster said from a distance (approx 3metres).

On the plus side the tv looks stylish and the sound quality is good also.

Can anyone advise as I am rubbish with things like this, if and how I can use other connections to maybe improve picture please??

    Would appreciate somebodys advise.
  • So is the picture GOOD or Bad?, we have different views. Anyone else who has got thiers yet care to add some input?
Im thinking of buying 2, so would like to be sure.

Well for best quality using scart cables you will need to make sure that output of the sky box scart socket (If there is more than one it will says TV above it) is set to RGB. You'll then have to make sure that your connecting the other end to the scart socket that excepts RGB on the LCD (usually SCART 1) - And make sure its set to it in the menu as well.

Brightness/Contrast is too high as defualt according to some posts so you might want to lower that down a bit. Terestrial signal will always look poor coming in from coax tbh. Remember people say that the set has to initially 'run-in'. Not sure if this is the case or not though.

From a digibox your looking at getting something at least like this:
