What is the difference between HDMI and HDCP? I've read on a couple of forums that for it to be truely HDTV compatable it needs one or the other, I know this one has HDCP (thanks to the other memeber who contacted Dell:) ) but what are the downfalls of now HDMI, or are they the same.
  • To my knowledge - HDMI is the interface which supports the high definition to display HDTV where as the HDCP is the CopyProtection protocol which will be used by the majority of the content providers out there to make sure you don't make backup copies of content. So without the HDCP you will find that once you buy a new HD DVD player in the future a lot of items will not play, but it will be perfect for PS3/Xbox360 etc and probably terestrial/freeview once they start HD next year...
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
  • Mines coming on Wednesday 30th November between 5pm - 9pm which suits me fine.
Will let you know whats it like after i`ve had a play.
Should be footy practice on Wednesday night, think i might give it a miss..

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A DECENT MODERN STAND FOR THE TV TO SIT ON...

    Many Thanks
    paul

So, to have HDCP you need HDMI in the first place and seeing that this has HDCP suggests it has both, and is a-ok in regards to being future proof?

No you can do HDCP over DVI.... as thing model does. w2600 has no HDMI connection.

HDMI AND DVI are the interfaces for HDTv ( abit like firewire and usb,)with HDMI being slighlty better (able to carry more bandwith). HDCP is simply the copy protection protocol ( kind of encryption) which restricts which product can use high definition content. I believe all HDMI are HDCP compliant but for DVI you have to make sure it states HDCP. Hope this clarifys things.

In this case the tv is setup for high defintion tv via dvi. would have been better with the Hdmi connection but for the price i guess you cant complain.

ah ok, thanks. So this connects via DVI and has HDCP right? Will there be problems in the future for not having an HDMI input? or will it be a long long time before they become standard?

One of my other concerns is watching football with 25ms response rate, it will still be watchable and won't blur like mad and be really annoying will it?
