  • And why oh why did people tick 'anytime anywhere' if they couldn't actually go anytime anywhere?

Have to disagree with you Georggy. Ok they messed up the first time but they put their hands up and admitted it and then went on to find a better way of doing it.

As far as only obsure hotels go - I doubt all the lovely ones in London, New York, Barcelona or the Gleneagles would thank you for calling them obsure:rotfl: (check out flyertalk loads of people got the Alex in New York - even I have heard of that)

I chose Amsterdam too and agree that I have not seen anybody successful post about it but you never know that may still be sorted out (ever the optimist:D ) or it may be that not everyone who applied for this promotion posts on MSE eh;)

If the promotion was a sham then theres a lot of very happy people posting on here and on flyertalk with an amazing opportunity to visit a hotel that they could not normally afford. Personally I am pleased for those who did and good luck to the rest of us for another 24 hours:j This was not a sure thing it was a lottery so hard cheese if you didnt get it im afraid.

    Nelskri,

Do you get up really early to practice being patronising or is it just a natural skill?

Your post fails to recognise the error on the form second time round. I mean come on - how long did they have to test the form? I am not a website builder, i've only ever built one for fun, but I could have done a better job on making sure a simple drop down box didn't interfere with the selections below.

Clearly some people have got places i've heard of - the majortiy have not. This promotion was aimed squarely at leisure travellars - so why are they handing out (a majority) of midweek dates?

Anyone in the hotel trade will tell you that midweek = business, weekend = leisure - who could possibly use one night in Switzerland midweek at this much short notice?

Show me posts here, or on flyertalk where someone has been given a major destination at weekend? There may be one or two, but is that really what we all signed up for, and wasted our time on - odds are better on euromillions for gods sake.

Clearly some people may have a nice weekend in Paris that don't use MSE or Flyertalk. Who knows? I can only go on the evidence I have, but given that these two forums publicised so much and that flyertalk has american members, then I think it should be a fairly representative sample. Have you heard of statistical sampling?

I am pleased for those who got rooms - I said that initially - I hope they have wonderful time, in winter, 2 hours outside of Vienna, for 1 night, on a Tuesday. I really do.

I've saved lots using this site over the years so it's hardly the end of the world if one thing doesn't come off - however this promotion was a sham - for a professional hotel broker to handle it they way they have and the end result to be so pathetic, then I stand by my opinion.

If 20 MSE'rs had posted saying that had got a weekend in Paris for £20 quid I would have been delighted for them. They haven't.

Geoggy. Totally agree. A complete fiasco from beginning to end and one which can only have damaged the reputation (if they had one) of LHW worldwide. it's almost similar to the Hoover sham many years ago.

Thanks, I just found it posted on flyertalk 20 mins ago and took it at it's word...... :j :j :j will re-cross those fingers and toes then
  • Funny enough I did choose the random hotel in Hong Kong for a Wed night, got the form in in 12sec and got 6xx as my number. Still heard nothing so looks like unless you put anywhere you were not going to get allocated a room at all. 6000 hotel rooms but most of those will be cancelled. The rooms will then go back on sale for rack rate no doubt. Clever, but not that clever as I have stayed in their hotels before and must admit they are lovely. However, I will never stay in LHW again so they have lost my business and probably thousands of other peoples business that, like us all have spent too much time on this constant email checking. Its become an obsession, are they ever going to send us a thanks but no thanks email? Wait and see, Thurs tomorrow.

I'm a bit surprised at the general bad feeling towards LHW, and think it's a bit unfair. I'm also surprised at the expectation that EVERYONE who applied was automatically going to get a free weekend at the Baglioni (or the specific hotel of their choice), worth £600+, for nothing. I mean the fact that a few people got offered these luxury free rooms ANYWHERE is amazing, when there was competition from people around the world. It's also obvious that the hotels would be giving these rooms away at quiet times like a weekday, and people who stated specific dates only on a Friday and Saturday night were going to have less chance of getting a room.
It's like buying a Lottery ticket, losing and then bad-mouthing National Lottery Ltd. (As for saying 'I will never use LHW to book anything ever again', I don't think, honestly, there are that many on here who would be regular customers of LHW, come on, admit it ;)).
I think it's been a bit of fun, and at the end of the day, what have people actually lost apart from a few minutes of their time ?
