lol first direct issued me a card valid for 6 months so I called them up and they said they were switching too.
doesn't really bother me, my maestro has always been accepted everywhere and no doubt the visa will too.0 -
Ten out of ten but it is not Mastercard Debit, two different systems, if Mastercard debit was introduced and got rid of Meastro then that would put things in balance.
Blimey you're well annoying! Take a look at the maestro logo, looks pretty familiar to the mastercard one no? :P
Mastercard would be the ones to do the deal, and this is what they meant.0 -
I don't trust everything I find with Google, nor what I hear from others that do.
I like to hear from the " horses mouth " before I accept anything as fact.
Just got to keep an open mind eh Inactive?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

The main difference as far as UK consumers are concerned between Mastercard Debit and Maestro is simply the Mastercard brand name used (as they own/use both)
'Mastercard Debit' cards started being issued in the UK during August I believe..

Good, glad that I am annoying you.Take a look at the maestro logo, looks pretty familiar to the mastercard one no? :P
You answered you own question at the end of your sentence...no.
MasterCard debit is a MasterCard with the word "debit" underneath, just like that of Visa Debit.
Mastercard would be the ones to do the deal, and this is what they meant.
No, the bank decides who it uses to process debit card payments for them..not the merchant.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? I can remember this as a kid at school, all the kids arguing over which was the better, a Commodore 64 or a Spectrum. Proliant reminds me a bit of this, the mines better than yours syndrome.
Why the passionate hatred of a payment card? Its just a payment card!0 -

Why the passionate hatred of a payment card? Its just a payment card!, however at no point did I quote that I have a hate for one payment card over the other, just pointing out a few facts but the "Maestro" club are having a hard time keeping their pecker up in a forum debate, lighten up man.

Anyone got some links to Mastercard debit(cos I read around via google) and this stuff unfortunately is interesting for me to read?
I read about the changes here and googled it which is why I posted on this thread. Cost is the reason from why VISA was ditched by RBS Group in the first place so I can understand the cost issues that is being discussed.
Thanks in advance, guys.0 -
Might be a dumb question but if I was to apply for a RBS student current account, would the debit card be a maestro or a visa?
I know it doesn't matter at the end of the day, but, which would it be?
Also off what I've seen in the shop I work in at weekend part time, both work fine, both are as quick as one another. Not seen a place refuse a maestro card to date so in reality, I haven't seen anything which makes visa better than maestro or would make me dislike one or the other. I did hear that visa gives you more protection on purchases but not sure how true that is.0
