If the bank had only given you £3,000 and charged you for £4,000 you'd be kicking up hell. Ask to see the proof, and if its conclusive that you did get the extra then you pay it back. Try and get it back from the guy you bought the car off but I dont imagine your chances are great if you dont know anything about them.0

But if its there fault then why should I suffer and loose a grand??
Wow, what a !!!!-up.
Ignorance is usually not a good form of defense. Go and tell the bank the full story.

unfortunately the money is still their property and they do have the right to ask for it back. It's a cruel lesson I'm afraid but it does teach a valuable lesson to count any money before u hand it over.
Do as gibbyni suggests and ask to see the video footage, then explain everything to them, maybe you can come to some arrangement with them.0 -

Indeed. It sounds like the sort of think that could only happen in a Laurel & Hardy film:DI am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This sounds incredibly dodgy, the cashier could be trying to pull some sort of scam here. Go into the bank and ask to speak to the cashier and the manager together before you do anything else.0

That's quite a story0

The reason the cashier counts the money out to you is so you agree you are happy with the amount and there are no mistakes.
I'm sorry to say if you weren't paying attention, you are just as much at fault as the cashier who made the error so, yes you are liable for it.
Sorry.....and good luck0 -
Surely though even if you wernt listening even after she had counted she would have confirmed 4000 okay? mmmm have you spoken to the police or bank yet?Debts to clearHSBC CC:1000/846 19.9%(atm)Barclay Card: 750/650(o%balance transfer)HSBC Loan:1000/0 COMPLETE!!Capital One CC:200/0 34.9%!!!!
