What's happened to warm bedding?

I bought some flannelette sheets from ambrosewilson.com a few months ago. Fabulous, soft and warm, but not cheap.
Best part for me though were the colours. Navy and Burgundy. Hunted high and low for deep dyed ones, can't stand those wishy-washy colours everyone seems to sell.0 -
Flannellette sheets, high tog duvet, fleecy underblanket and electric blanket. They're all on my bed and I wonder why flannellette sheets seem to have gone out of fashion. I hate the slidy, cold, artificial sheets that are on sale now." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I have heard that those memory foam toppers really increase the warmth of a bed - not cheap though! Like others on here, I use a fleece blanket - one on top of the sheet (so you sleep on the fleece) is nice and cosy and they are easy to wash and very quick to dry.
Otherwise Siberian goose down duvets are suppossed to be very warm and cosy if you can afford one:

My bed is very very cosy and warm. I have flannellette fitted sheets and a flannellette duvet cover over a qvc down duvet.. It is fab to get into on these cold nights. Add some warm fluffy bedsocks for ultra cold nights and I am like a bug in a rug
imo it is important to keep the feet cosy as cold feet can wake you up0 -
And do you remember all those Brentford Nylons brushed sheets of yesteryear?. I was clearing out my airing cupboard the other day and found an unopened pair of their double sheets in yucky pink. Was tempted to charity shop them but thought "No", they might be useful when times get harder, although I prefer the cotton ones. Wouldn't go back to blankets though - all that wool fibre dust which used to come off . Our duvet is machine wasable and much more practical. If you have a Dunelm store near you, they often provide small samples of the thickness & quality of bedding (sheets, duvets, etc) so you can check it out before you buy. Don't know whether they have an online service though.0

We bought a £70 fleecy underblanket with dual controls, from argos. You cant get both sides hot --one stays much cooler and it wrinkles like mad. We already took the first one back and now this one is the exact same...I want rid of it !!
Has anybody got a heated overblanket and are they better ? Can you leave them on all night ?0 -
Dunelm do have an online service

Nylon sheets, eh? I remember the static well!!
We've got a flannelette bottom sheet and a flannelette duvet cover on the bed, topped off with a cracking quilted bedspread that I got in Ikea at the end of November for £11 (it's a king size bed!)
Morrison's do a fleece mattress cover from £5 upwards depending on the size of the bed. I've got one on the bed and it's lovely and warm.
Mardatha - interesting about the dual control underblanket, as I was tempted by one earlier in the year, but put off by the cost!0 -

Nylon bedsheets are a riot!
You don't need to put the light on, just flap the sheet about and the static lights up the whole room :rotfl:
Flannelette is great, I use it and get from QVC, not cheap but they will last a long time, a lot of years.
We used to have those candystriped ones when we were little, I think they are expensive now, retro and all that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
