What's happened to warm bedding?

We have a silk 'all seasons' duvet, and I love it! It is heavier than you would expect despite being comparatively thin, but wraps nicely around you in cold weather. If your room is really cold, I would suggest one of those that has 2 silk duvets which join together - our flat is reasonably warm as we get the heat from the downstairs neighbours, and we do have the heating on low overnight (having both grown up in warm countries) so the one medium duvet is fine for us.
It is also fine in summer up to the point where it gets so hot that all you need is a sheet - and let's face it, how many of those days do we get?
We both notice the difference when we are staying elsewhere, under a bulky synthetic duvet which doesn't wrap up nicely and leaves gaps! We both also tend to sweat more when we use a synthetic duvet, which is unpleasant. As much as I love feather duvets and pillows, some of them make me sneeze and wheeze after a while, so not worth taking the risk!
I wasn't sure at first if we really needed one when we decided to replace our old duvet, as they tend to be fairly expensive, especially compared to synthetics (ours came from an online shop called Gingerlily) but we both now agree it was definitely worth it!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
I'd never heard of a wool duvet....I'm intrigued now.
BUT, this weekend we put a synthetic duvet underneath us. Its been a raging success, I just didn't think of it so early in the year, but its really wonderful. Back to one duvet on top, and in fact, last night I kicked the covers off for the first tie since that very warm spring we had instead of summer. I have a new, second synthetic vaue duvet to add underneath and we probaby won't need to buy anything to replace our duvet this year....it leaves us with our two duvets, and also a couple of much smarter quilts I usually use for guests. (they can't be washed at home when needed and our cats sleep in bed with us, so wary of us using the too much, but underneath other things will be fine)
