Has to be Egyptian cotton sheets though....had them once on a hotel bed and just couldn't have anything else now (despite the ironing!) .....they just feel sooooo luvverly :D

I'm really looking forward to the Chrissie prezzie my friend has bought me this year...a 100% pure cashmere throw, (TkMaxx so not too expensive)....sheer bliss :p

Also remember Brentford Nylon sheets in day-glo colours
    .....and candy striped flannelette :o
.....and gran's 'sides to middling' :o

Show off:p :p:D I'm saving up for Egyptian cotton, want a really high thread count;)

    Mmmmmm now a cashmere throw.........:rotfl:

And OMG I'd forgotten *sides to middle* . That seam up the middle was so uncomfortable if your Gran sewed like mine:rotfl: :rotfl:

    all their items are lovely
  • Don't know whether to thank you or slap you, kittie:rotfl: :D

They look really good, but of course now I want the best towels too:o I'm really weird, only really like white bedlinen and white towels.( I'm in heaven in good hotels:D ) Was total madness when I had 4 sons living at home, 2 of whom played football, and another played rugby:rotfl: Anyway, I think I want to thank you for the link:p :D Best save harder:rolleyes:

  • I've always wondered WHY people like white towels. I like mine as dark as possible so they don't stain.
Why do people have all matching towels ? We have a colour code so each person always uses their own colour. Wouldn't want DH's towel ..yuck!

XH and I were given some 'lovely' nylon sheets as a wedding present 25 years ago! Being frugal I could't 'not' use them so they became matress protectors. Don't think they protected much though!!
We had some other 'strange' presents from XH's weird foreign relations !! I wrote lovely thank you letters ! :D:o

  • I like white towels because they look so clean:D And if they're not clean I don't want to use them, there's no mistake with white towels. As for using DH's towel, we've exchanged body fluids, exchanging towels is nothing:rotfl:

my daughter suffers from eczema which is made much worse by artifical fibres - so fleece blankets, sleepsuits etc are all out.

She has an anti-allergy duvet in 10.5 tog but can't afford to buy her a heavier one I'm going to get her some brushed cotton pjs from primark and am looking for other stuff to layer her up with. Wool blankets seem to be mega bucks - can anyone suggest anything?

    Thanks

Not sure about blankets but wearing her PJs inside out will really help as the seams will not irritate the skin ;)

You can buy stuff where the seams are on the outside from specialist sites but they are exp if my memory is correct.

You could try posting on freecycle to ask if anyone has a spare wool blanket... if you post the reason you want it, I am sure someone will help :)

We stopped using duvets a couple of years ago and replaced with wool blankets which give improved moisture permeability (so less clammy nights). We bought several second hand blankets on Ebay and also splashed out on 2 new ones from John Lewis.

Didnt regret it at all :)

You can still buy cellular cotton blankets for babies. Would a cot bed size be too small for a 10 year old?

Can you knit or crochet, or do you know someone who does? A woolen blanket made from knitted or crochet squares would be real shabby chic style.

Woolen blankets. Ask around, especially older relatives and friends. My mum never threw out her trunk load of woolen blankets when she changed to duvets and they were still good as new when we cleared out her house. We washed them and split them up between our houses and they're lovely and cosy on a cold night.

As to the duvet, how about a brushed cotton duvet cover and sheets? Very cosy.

And don't forget the old standbys of vest under PJs, wool or cotton bedsocks and a hot water bottle.
