And do you remember all those Brentford Nylons brushed sheets of yesteryear?. I was clearing out my airing cupboard the other day and found an unopened pair of their double sheets in yucky pink. ...snipped .

 I was a teenage Brentford Nylons victim: I must have been in denial because I had forgotten the horror of nylon sheets: sliding into bed and shooting out the other side if you were wearing nylon pjs, the static electric crackles each time you moved and the ugly, ugly colours. My sister had purple nylon sheets for her bed, a striped purple nylon nightie and we both had navy quilted nylon dressing gowns from BN :o .

Once was enough, so I held out for BN flannelette sheets... mine were a tasteful neon orange and lasted for years, especially after I patched them with white flannelette after the sides-to-middle seam gave up. Dear mother forbade me putting them on the line after that "in case the neighbours see them" - neighbours? they were visible from outer space!:p

I remember nylon sheets. If you snagged a toenail on them the horrible feeling kept you up all night.

  • When me and now ex husband went on our honeymoon to Blackpool in 1980
there were lovely bright pink brushed nylon sheets on the bed in the bed & breakfast we stayed in . The place was also really grubby, I did not want to put my bare feet on the floor let alone get in the bed. We did though eventually!
  • I've just bought some flanellette sheets from Dunelm Mill.
Dorma ones are £12.99 for a fitted double.
Bliss to get into although I have still got my eleccy blanket on.

I bought a 'Supremely warm' thermal fleecy blanket from Dunelm and I can't recommend it enough, it wasn't cheap (£25) but it is so warm, it fits over our double duvet and doesn't seem to move in the night. I've finally managed to ditch the 2 pairs of bed socks I've been wearing since it got cold.

:o Am I the only person who likes cold beds and cold sheets ? I've only just allowed DP to put the winter duvet on because I hate it too hot

Definitely not:D I'll get into a bed as cold as you like, can't bear a hot bed. We don't even have a winter duvet, only a light/medium weight one. Even so I spend most of the night pillow-flipping trying to find a nice cold spot:rolleyes: Cold 100% smooth cotton sheets for me every time;) I do remember candy striped flannelette sheets from childhood though, and loved them at the time. :D

Was tempted to charity shop them but thought "No", they might be useful when times get harder, although I prefer the cotton ones. Wouldn't go back to blankets though - all that wool fibre dust which used to come off . Our duvet is machine wasable and much more practical. If you have a Dunelm store near you, they often provide small samples of the thickness & quality of bedding (sheets, duvets, etc) so you can check it out before you buy. Don't know whether they have an online service though.

Ha ha, you beat me to it, I was just thinking of the bright pink and dark purple bri-nylon sheets my nan used to have. The static in them was unbelievable and the bed would crackle as you got in and out. The good old days! :rotfl:

I'm another cold bed person, can't abide electric blankets or getting into a warm bed but I do like the weight of a good heap of bedding on top of me and prefer to have a blanket on top of a summer weight duvet for the colder nights.
