• LLU is why sky .talk talk .tiscali etc can offer all the cheap services they do. They take full or partial control of you line bypass BT wholesale and deal direct with openreach.
To keep it simple if you live in an area with an llu presence. (see sam knows website) then BT retail can offer you bigger discounts on broadband.
• with the norton, doesnt that automatically run anyway on your pc. Is it worth getting it or shopping around for a better anti virus. Can i ask for the 9.49 deal without asking for a mac code or is that only their retention tool?

I use AVG for anti virus and Zone Alarm as a firewall and both work a treat for me. Both are also free in true money saving style
• thanks will def try those.
As for the 9.49 deal, i have looked on sam knows and bt is the only provider in my area, tho i can get sky and o2 connect according to their websites. Will i still be able to bag the cheap deal or be shot down in flames....

My 12 months on Option 3 broadband have expired, so I called BT asking for MAC to try and get a deal out of them.

They have offered me the standard retention deal listed above. It's £19.99 for Option 3 for another 12 months and the new black homehub and phone included for free.

Shall I call back to confirm the deal or call their bluff and request the MAC and await a call from the retentions team???

I have yet to ring BT but o2 have offered me free BB for 12 months (7.50 after) If I sign up for Simplicity mobile ( 10 pounds pm 150 minutes free, provide your own mobile). I am on option 3 (24.99) I have resisted their offers of a 2 pound cut.
Will they offer me anything worthwhile?

• Sorry to bump this thread but "BT customer service" have turned into a comedy of errors. Just rang them as I have not received my written confirmation as dicussed a few weeks ago. Turns out the numpty decided to bang me onto option 1!!! Without telling me. So after 30 minutes of trying to explain whats gone on, it has been passed to the "Resolution Team" whatever that its, and they are going to allegedly call me back when a solution has been found. I have said thats it last chance, next telephone call I make will be for my MAC code no exceptions.

WARNING
I've had a nightmare from BT!!! THE OFFERS are too good to be true. 12 months ago i wanted my mac code to move on to o2@£7.50. They offered me 12 months contract on option 3 with broadband talk phone, 6 months free and pay remaning 6 months at £24.99. This also incl. vision box and no connnection/setup charge. It sounded a great deal because u get new hub, hub phone, vision box all worked out £12.50 per month for 12 months!!!!. I took the deal.

I'll try and cut it short..............

Now 12 months later, time to renew so i phoned BT to see what on offer for nx 12 months.... to my surprise they said my contract is an 18 month instead of 12!!!!!!!!!!!! They said I get first 6 months free and pay normal 24.99 for the remaining months! Obivously i disagree and asked them to look back on my conversation 12 months ago. They asked me to wait 5 days for the result. 5 days gone, no call back, 6 days, 7 days, 8, days, nearly 3 weeks with me phoning every couple of days and each time i called i was transfered to diff depts!!!and each dept i had to repeat myself, name security details and reason for the call!!!! cuts offs 5+ times! Ive spent maybe over 8 hrs on the phone in 3+ weeks and had many promises for call back from the complaints/resoluton team. Ive even asked them to give me a direct contact number for the complaints team but they say they cant and i must wait for the call back!!!!!!! Finally nearly 4 weeks later i had a call back.... They cant trace my original contract/renewal/call recording. At first he bluffed and said i must complete my 18th contract....... and i had to explain the whole deal again...... at the end he agreed!!!!! BTW the BT guy sounded so arrogant but at the end he cannot prove anything so he had stick with 12months instead of 18ths.

Nx day i called up for the mac code..... BT tried to offer me a deal... i said NONONO...... just give me the mac code!!!!!!! waited 5 days and now got it...... Tomorrow i am moving to o2. If o2 had telephone line rental i would also move it over!!!!

Never BT BB for me!!!!

• Hi everyone.

I phoned BT for a MAC code as I wanted to tranfer to SKY broadband but was offered countless deals and eventually I signed up for the BT Option 1 deal of £9.49 for 12 months.

I checked with the "very helpful" young man on numerous occassions that this option would give me enough usage as we had just bought our two teenagers lap tops for their birthdays and no doubt they would be on the internet constantly!

He kept reassuring me but I kept saying I would rather go with Sky as I could get unlimited space for the same money as well as free evening and weekend calls.

He then proceeded to tell me that I had been upgraded back in May and that I was also getting free eve/w-end calls. NEWS TO ME!!! I asked him how this could have happened without us knowing about it but he couln't give me any answers.

Anyway, 6 weeks down the line, we have exceeded our monthly limit twice and I am waiting for a MAC code to transfer to SKY.

At first BT said that I wouldn't have been sold the product if it hadn't been suitable and was therefore tied in for 12 months. I explained what had happened and fair play to them, they traced my call and rang me back to apologise for the fact that I had been mislead and I was given the wrong information and product. I am now waiting for them to e-mail me my code.

Unfortunately, I am still waiting to hear back from them regarding transferring my phone calls as they still say we are tied in until next May due to the fact that out phone contract was upgraded last May. I told them that neither my husband or I knew anything about the upgrade and they say they don't know who authorised the upgrade or who entered it on their system so they advised me to make an official complaint.

I have made a complaint but am still waiting to hear back from them.
If only I knew then what I know now :)

Hi there

Did everyone who was offered a reduced price on their BT broadband actually get charged the agreed price on their subsequent bills?

The reason I ask is I managed to negotiate the £5.00 a month deal for 12 months and was told this would be applied as 2 separate discounts.

Discount 1 would reduce the monthly cost of my broadband down to £9.49 a month.

Discount 2 would be a one off credit equivalent to 12 x £4.49 effectively reducing my broadband down to the agreed £5.00 per month

I agreed this back in September last year but when I got my next BT bill (in Dec) the one off credit had been applied but the monthly charge for my broadband was still £14.99. I made several calls and sent emails to BT and finally believed I'd got the matter resolved after speaking to a manager.

However I've just received my March bill and I'm now being charged £15.99 per month for my broadband.

Has anyone else had similar problems or have I just been unlucky?

Hi Canny_mal
Sorry to read about your bill being incorrect. These offers are often applied in 2 stages, and the reduced rate should have appeared automatically on your bill. I will send you a PM as I can get this looked into for you.
Cheers
