BT Broadband £5/month

I have just rang BT for my mac code as I was going to change to O2 broadband. I am on Option 1 and was told I could have it for £5 per month for 12months and it is a 12 month contract, I had been paying £17.99 per month. They also told me this offer ends Friday 19th and then would be, (i think they said) £9.95 after that.
I was also offered a second telephone line to make free calls from my pc, this is free. They told me with option 1 I was receiving free weekend landline calls but they could change that to free evening and weekend calls and there would be no extra charge, but I didnt go with that one as my calls are with primus.

Lol, well done you :T , I rang them yesterday and thought I'd done quite well to get my BB down to £9.49 a month (from £14.99)
They offered me the evening calls for free as well, and 25% off calls to mobiles - I took it as I'm paying the line rental anyway, although I hardly use the phone.0 -
I was meant to be having Virgin Media install their £4.50 broadband tomorrow. I am currently with BT and pay £14.99. After reading this thread I got straight on the phone and managed to get BT for £5 pm for 12 months. I then got cut off from their end and when I got back through to the call centre I was offered £4.50 and a new black hub. They're also going to babysit on Saturday for me and I expect a Christmas card.0

Is that a broadband only contract?
I'll need to check that as I am paying £18 per month at the moment with Virgin. I phoned them a couple of months ago and they said the £14 per month was only for cable users!?0 -
The Virgin £4.50 BB is only with the £11 for line rental too I believe.0

Had to reply so I just joined the forum. Since the beginning of the year the broadband usage in our house has shot through the roof (5 kids, including 3 teenagers, need I say more?) so at the moment I'm on BT Option 1 and paying a significant excess every month. My contract tie in is due to expire next month so I was looking for an unlimited package and O2's looked like the favorite at 17.50/month (not their cheapest as my line has not been "unbundled", but still better than BT Option 3 at 24.99). Called BT to get a MAC code and after a "let me talk to my manager" pause I was offered Option 3 for £15.50 a month for 12 months. This includes getting their fancy new black (802.11n) Home Hub with phone and, more importantly, avoiding the hassle of changing providers.
Anyone on BT outside of their tie-in period should be calling 0800 3286738 and asking for a MAC code!0 -
Having noticed this thread yeasterday I rang BT last night. I'm currently on BT Broadband option 1 paying £14.99 per month.
First guy I spoke to said he could bring it down to £9.49 a month for 12 months but having read about people getting it for £5 I declined. I tried to get it down further but he said he couldn't discount it any further
Rang back an hour later and got through to a very helpful lady who again initially offered me £9.49 a month but when I said I would likely move elsewhere she went and had a word with a supervisor and came back with the £5 a month for 12 months offer.
Needless to say I snapped her hand off!
Thanks to the original poster for bringing this to my attention.0 -

Thanks a lot just rang them up as I had my renewal notice today. Got BT down from £23.99 pm for option 3 to £14.99 Per Month, a new black home hub (wouldnt give me the phone though!!!) and they are retesting my line to hopefully get me 4.5mb instead of my current 3.5mb.
And no hassle of changing providers. YAY>
UPDATE : They sent me a confirmation letter but for £19.99 I phoned them gave them hell and now Im getting it for £12.99 pmonth, waiting on the confirmation letter first though, although my hub has turned up :-)"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Thanks everyone!
I just bagged the £15.99 deal for £9.49 for 12 months.
I tried for the £5 but they wouldn't budge but hey it's still better than the £15.99 I'm paying them currently for my old basic 1 GB download package!
Got the hub/router, 2nd phone line, cable to attach my desktop pc, etc etc included so I'm very happy.
And I don't have the hassle of changing providers either:j
They say it will all arrive between 7am-7pm next Thursday.
Thanks again :beer:If only I knew then what I know now0 -
Hmm...
Following on from my last post - when I thought I was getting Option 3 for £15.50 a month. I received a confirmation letter from BT quoting £22.99 minus £3 discount = £19.99 a month. After a few calls to their "Customer Options team" and a bit of argy bargy the eventual upshot was that the original consultant "must have made a mistake" and they would never offer Option 3 for less than £19.99, despite what other posters on this thread have said. Pushed it as hard as I could and I'm still left wondering if I would get a different answer if I spoke to someone else.
Anyway, at the moment I've cancelled the regrade, requested a MAC code and am back to plan A - moving to O2.
The moral of the story - if you get a verbal offer from BT that sounds too good to be true - it might be. Make sure you check your follow up paperwork thoroughly.0 -
rhodders77 the only reason i can work out you were offered the price was based on an average. there is an offer 18 month contract with 6 months free on option 3 at £22.99 (£22.99 x 12 /18 equals £15.32 per month on average vbmenu_register("postmenu_14433399", true);0
