    Hmm...

Following on from my last post - when I thought I was getting Option 3 for £15.50 a month. I received a confirmation letter from BT quoting £22.99 minus £3 discount = £19.99 a month. After a few calls to their "Customer Options team" and a bit of argy bargy the eventual upshot was that the original consultant "must have made a mistake" and they would never offer Option 3 for less than £19.99, despite what other posters on this thread have said. Pushed it as hard as I could and I'm still left wondering if I would get a different answer if I spoke to someone else.

Anyway, at the moment I've cancelled the regrade, requested a MAC code and am back to plan A - moving to O2.

The moral of the story - if you get a verbal offer from BT that sounds too good to be true - it might be. Make sure you check your follow up paperwork thoroughly.

I have just rang BT for my MAC but takes 5 days to arrive! I am also going to O2 and im sure you wont have any regrets. They threw everything at me to keep me and in the end they sounded desperate!!!
  • rhodders77 i just updated my post. I got same letter as you, but they have said I can have option 3 for £12.99 per month!! Im just waiting on the confirmation letter before I get too over excited. They never questioned the £14.99 deal I was originally quoted, and said they dont know how I ended up with the £22.99 minus £3 deal!!!

    We will wait and see!!!

  • the BT Retention offers are as follows

    bt broadband option 1

£12.99per month if you persist £9.49 per month (£5.00 has ended) all 12 month contract. or 6months free then £15.99 18 month contract.

    bt broadband option 2

£15.99 per month 12 month contract or on an 18 month contract 6 months free then £20.99 after that

    bt broadband option 3
£19.99 per month 12 month contract or if 18 month contract 6 months free and then £22.99 after that

if your get any other other offer from an advisor ask to speak to a manager to confirm the price ( yes i do work for BT and yes im getting fed up of cancelling the mis-sold offers / all above correct as of 25/09/2008
  • This is becoming a bit of a farce...

Having just received my MAC code via email, I received a call on my mobile today from somebody else in the "Customer Options team." They had listened to a recording of my original call when I was quoted £15.50 for Option 3 for 12 months and confirmed it was valid. The person I spoke to last week who said that it must have been a error was in error herself! Apparently, this was a special retention offer valid for one week only and only available if you came through to the Newcastle call centre! It all seems a bit of a lottery to me. The letter I received was a standard one which shouldn't have been sent for this "special offer."

Anyhow the upshot is I'm back with BT (fortunately I hadn't got round to the O2 application yet). Despite me cancelling the regrade to option 3 following my last call, it did go through on Friday. On advice from BT, I refused delivery of the router but another one is getting sent out again. I'm to be charged £22.99 a month but will get a lump sum credit on my next bill of £89.88 which is equivalent to the discount to bring it down to £15.50 a month for 12 months.

Needless to say I asked for all this to be confirmed in writing.

Watch out for the next thrilling installment!

sounds like they have given you the 6 months free option on a 12 month contract instead of 18 months . If you got called back with offer i wouldnt worry its looks correct just check the min contract

Sorry to bump this thread but "BT customer service" have turned into a comedy of errors. Just rang them as I have not received my written confirmation as dicussed a few weeks ago. Turns out the numpty decided to bang me onto option 1!!! Without telling me. So after 30 minutes of trying to explain whats gone on, it has been passed to the "Resolution Team" whatever that its, and they are going to allegedly call me back when a solution has been found. I have said thats it last chance, next telephone call I make will be for my MAC code no exceptions.

its free to ring BT so costs nothing. If the res team have your complaint they will sort it. the way to win them over is to be polite but insist you were told a price and you want that price. be persistant and dont threaten to leave just insist on having the price you were told. they will give in as its an easy fix for them and they will credit your bill to cover the price difference.

thanks, I am always polite, shouting at them never gets you anywhere, I remember when I first got BB installed in 2002ish with the stingray modem!!! they messed up, just rang them then asked for the address of there complaints fired off a letter and got a months free BB out of it, not a single raised voice.

It can get frustrating though explaining yourself from the absolute beginning every time you ring them up. But hey if I get option 3 for 12.99 pm I am quite happy to explain it again.
