Hi everyone!
I have just spent hours catching up here instead of tidying up during Joseph's nap time! Bad mummy! At least I managed to bake banana muffins - my way of tidying up ripe bananas
Welcome to the new girls. Well done on the cute babies from the photos - they are beautiful aren't they? Hope all the snuffles are short lived, babies go back to sleeping well, and hugs to Baybee!
Things are going well here. Joseph is taking more and more solo steps. You can see his confidence rising every day. Still waking me up every few hours as he can't pick up the dummy laying next to him  - this started a few months ago now, and I let is slide as he had colds and teething discomfort, but getting silly now. I need uninterupted sleep!
My question of the day is this: when can I introduce a pillow into his cot? What kind of thing should I be looking for? Thanks.:wall:0 -
Hi Agutke
dummies are a pain aren't they - my biggest did the same thing ~(wake up crying because it'd fallen out) and that was my cue to wean him off then. owever he was about 2 1/2 then so you prob won't want to take that step yet.
Funnily enough I was wondering about when to introduece pillows to the other day but decided aagainst it for now as he seems ok without. Be interested to know what others do though.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -

Saying that, Izzy never actually manages to stay with her head on the pillow or her blanket over her, just ends up upside down and usually chucks the blanket out :rotfl:0 -
I gave my daughter a pillow when she moved into a 'bed' (she had a cot bed, essentially we took the sides off to make it into a bed) at 18 months. As it's something a little different to them, it's always worth pairing it with another 'disruption', so add a pillow when they move to a new bed rather than doing both seperately.
Regarding b/f, I have the utmost respect for those who manage it and yes, it is the best thing for baby. However, don't ever feel guilty if you can't manage it and absolutely do not let any midwives, health visitors etc treat you as if you're committing the ultimate crime! There are unfortunately holier than thou people and heathcare bods out there who may try to tell you that you MUST b/f or at least try because if you don't, you're worse than Satan and must feel guilty for life.
You know your baby, you know what's best for them. I wasn't able to b/f. My DD is now 7, very tall for her age, doing well at school and aside from the usual mild colds they all get in their first few years (oh and chicken pox!) she's never been unwell (up to now, long may it continue!) and has had no time off school due to being poorly.0 -
Agutka, re J's dum we had this problem with Jack and we attach his dummy to a dummy leaad and clip it to his grobag. We did this when he was 11 months as I couldn't cope with getting up hourly, he soon learnt to find it himself and even now he twiddles with the lead in his sleep as a comfort thing. Now he's under a duvet we clip it to his pj's.
We got Molly onto a dummy lead about 2 months ago when she was waking for it. Even at her age, she can locate it and put it back in, unless its gone over the back of her shoulder, she can't sit up enough to pull it back. Don't worry about choking, its not long enough for that. We buy the mam ones as then you can use them with either the loop handle dums or the button type. We just thread the loop through the handle and pass it through back on itself if you haven't got a mam dummy. Our's are a mix of avent and tesco. I personally decided not to go with a dummy lead with a velcro fastening for the dummy end as I knew Jack would pull it off and then chuck it out of the cot, as an excuse to get me back to return it. He'd been doing this pre dummy lead, its a great game at bedtime when stalling it being learnt!
Re pillow, we introduced one to Jack when he came out of a grobag (he was managing to get out of it during the night). He had a cotbed duvet to start with at the beginning of the summer, we thought he would learn to stay under it whilst the weather was warm. Nope. So recently we put him under a single size duvet and tucked one side under the mattress and folded it up at the bottom of the cot. This way we've found he stays up one end of the cot (on the pillow) and he's mostly stayed under the covers. We are not brave enough to remove the cot sides yet, i'm leaving that one for as long as possible. I like my sleep and we have a nice bedtime routine!!! Jack I mean, not us :-)0 -
I'm planning to do a pillow when Alice moves into a bed (and I intend to keep her in the cot as long as I can). Currently Alice moves around the cot so much that a pillow would be pointless and a bed would be unsafe but every child is different.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I think DS was about 14-15months when we took the sides off n turned his cot into the cotbed, this was when I introduced a pillow. I bought him a new duvet set [a 'cheeky monkey' one] so the whole thing was dead exciting to him, like a brand new bed, he told everyone 'Im a big boy now and have a monkey bed!'
And thanks for the hugs hun!! x\\ Debt Free April 2008 //\\ Single Mummy to 1 boy - 4 years & 5 months old //\\ Last weeks spend: £139.39 - 2 NSDs //0 -
Thanks everyone, am about to attach a lead to his growbag - that should stop the tantrum throwing of dummy too. And it seems too early for a pillow, although he always has his head on a pile of blanket or teddy...hmmm.:wall:0

If he's naturally using things as a pillow, then he may well be ready for one - you don't have to necessarily go by age but obviously development and size are both factors.
Try him with a small pillow to begin with, one which has a stiched cover which you'd wash as one unit and see how he goes.0
