Happpy Birthday Henry!
(I added an extra P in the happy to make up for the missing one in Daphne's post)
My MIL said something weird the other day - I asked what our little niece would like for a present and she replied "It's not what she wants, it's what her father will let her have" ! So I asked what if I give her something he doesn't approve of? "He'll just put it in the garage" she replied. We're talking about any present, not just big ones. Is that not weird? My OH has no idea what our son has, neither does he care, as long as he's not tripping over it too often. I'm annoyed that I can't get the girl something I like, but will be dictated to by BIL as to type of present and amount spent. Really puts me off buying anything. MIL is going along with this and buys niece everything, but keeps it in her car for when she looks after them.
 don't know what you're talking about
LOL at the idea of only giving toys I approve of! How old is your niece? Look I am not a fan of primary coloured plastic but Elliot loves it, I also hate the train as it sings in an American accent (zeebra instead of zebra) but so what, his Granny bought it for him and he loves it, that's what matters. And it has an off-switch! :cool:0 -
My OH ate the chocolate Alice was given for Christmas last year and we did tell my in-laws not to give chocolate egss for Easter but other than that we don't dictate what will be accepted (although we do try to give suggestions when people ask).Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

i know what you're all saying about plastic toys everywhere. we've told the grandparents not to buy anything too much but they've already started stocking up and he has so much already. i'd prefer it if they bought clothes for when he's bigger but then they all like to see him playing with their presents so that wouldnt do. if he gets too much i'm gonna put some of it away and bring it out at intervals when he starts gettin bored with what he's got.
as for sterilising, well Oz is still on the boob (can't get him off - any tips anyone?!) but i do sterilise any bottles or cups i use when i'm trying to get him to take them (never works). i don't sterilise any of his bowls or spoons or anything. I think with teats its probably important to make sure you get all remnants of milk out cos thats what would cause tummy upsets more so than any toys or whatever they put in their mouths so i would tend to wash teats thoroughly and sterilise them as well.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Hi nadnad, if you want to wean then just replace one milk feed every 4/5 days to avoid engorgement. My advice with good intent is that I found BFing sooooooo many million more times easier past 6 months and well worth carrying on to avoid the faff of bottles. Especially when they are more established on solids and rely on you less/take less from you. I planned to stop at 6 months but am glad I didn't, and am aiming to stop now within the next couple of months (by new year)0

Oh yeah grandparents need guidance otherwise Elliot would have received two rocking horses for his birthday!0

Not too bad for us in that my mum/dad havent even bought Henry anything for his birthday at the moment, MIL and hubby have bought him savings certificates but we have 3 presents from FIL and his wife which I think are clothes, an electric toy and something else. I got my aunt/uncle to buy him a toy for the bath and then she gave me the extra in money which I will put in CTF.Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0

thanks daphne and i probably will continue to bf him but i'd like the option to stop if I wanted esp as he's starting biting me (thought he'd took my nipple off last night!) problem is he will not entertain a bottle or cup at all. he will take water from a normal cup but not milk (not breast milk or formula) he just wants the boob. I can see me feeding him til he's like 2. My OH keeps calling me bitty (you know that sketch from little britain where the 40 year man is still bf yuck yuck yuck!! lol)
i've been spoon feeding him now and he's really good - takes everything i've given him so far, all homemade purees I bought annabelle carmels book its really good for ideas if anyones interested.
also just bought "no cry sleep solution" by elizabeth pantley and its basically full of common sense ideas that i'd already thought of, but now that i've made the step to buy and read the book its made me want to put some effort into getting the monkey to sleep more at night. also its made me feel better - everything in the book is what we've been experiencing - We're not alone!!!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

carol my wee man has the rainforest jumperoo (its about £75) he loves it been in it since just over 3 months though its meant for 6 month olds i think, he's only now starting to appreciate all the bits and bobs on it and starting to bounce as well so at 5 months its prob just the right time for your little one.
but if you didnt want to spend that much then my lo gets just as much fun out of those electronic books with light and sounds he bashes away at them.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
