    Happy Birthday Samantha.

I stopped sterlising bottles by about 8 months. I used to work in a food microbiology lab, so I'm paranoid about bacteria too! As long as they get a very good clean in hot soapy water, I figured Charlotte would be fine. At the time she was rolling round the floor and chewing on manky dog toys that the dog had given her and stuff like that

I've never looked into the nutrition Agutka. I just knew cow's milk is a lot cheaper than formula milk, which is why I was keen to change :D

Charlotte had a bottle until she was a year old, then I phased it out and started giving her a cup all the time.
Here I go again on my own....

I think there's a difference between the bugs which kids pick up from the floor and the bugs which can grow when milk is left to fester, isn't there?

As for winding, surely you do it as long as baby needs it ... if they're getting bad wind after they're tiny, doesn't it often help to change the size of the hole in the teat or the shape of the teat or something? Should happen less with a cup because they'd take in less air, surely?

I stopped sterilising a few months ago, until then it was just part of a routine, but now that we only use one or two bottles a day the steriliser had to go. I wasn't worried about germs after 6 or 7 months really. As for the bottles I have no idea - my nephew (4yo) still has his bedtime milk with a teat, so I never knew different, Joseph drinks water out of anything. I'm more worried about my reluctance to give him cows milk! For some reason I seem to believe that formula contains more minerals and vitamins, someone enlighten me!
As for winding, I shouldn't think he'd let me hold him when he's eager to get back to his toys! Besides once they sit up, they can work on burps quite effectively on their own. Nice.
    Hi Agutka  :hello:

I only BF Elliot once now before bed so he has a bit of formula in the morning and sometimes in the day and I have been a little reluctant to switch to cows too. It does have more vitamins in it (formula I mean) but if J is eating well then he will get what he needs from food, hence you can switch to cows (and god yes it's cheaper, especially as I use cartons, not powder)

Elliot has been a bit up and down when it comes to eating proper meals which is why I've waited but as of today we are going to mix it 50:50 and see how he likes it... the taste is very different though!

    Happy birthday to Samantha! _party_

So what are the Winter 07 babies getting for Christmas this year then? I have no idea what to get...

Havent a clue what to get DS for Xmas bad enough sorting out for 1st birthday, think it will be something that he can maybe have when he's 18 months. Probably the wrong attitude but dont think he's that bothered at the moment anyway..

  • No I'm with you Maz, that's what I mean - it was a struggle to get something for his birthday (xylophone - he loves it, I hate it!) and now Christmas is just around the corner too. We also got a swing for the garden (it doesn't need to be warm for ten minutes fresh air!) and the grandparents got a rocking horse and a giant animal train thing so I am dreading even more [STRIKE]plastic crap[/STRIKE] useful and educational toys ;) cluttering up the place.

Know what you mean. My sister has also given us some of the toys my nephew had so have quite a lot of that sort of thing, keep looking at some of the wooden type ones etc. My aunt has bought something for the bath and then just given us some money which to be honest I may add to his CTF.

OH mum is getting savings certificates... one thing I have bought is thisjust cos its something from this year and they finished this year so something for when he is older

Happy Birthday Samantha! Isn't it great?!

I just had an image of Elliot sat on his little swing in the rain playing really sad music on his xylophone :rotfl:

Ahh, xmas... I am buying nothing for Joseph, he has more toys than the local toddler group. But of course I do get him things as and when, so will probably end up with a few parcels from us. Of course now I want a xylophone! Must check the garage for my old one...

You gotta love the photos on toy boxes, or the adverts - they show babies enjoying these toys in way you know they can't. Joseph is slowly learning to grab things, put things in, take stuff out but no way at 6 months could he drive a train, press buttons on purpose and put animals in carts. He could however read books ;)

I totally agree with you Agutka...plus thinking about it, Henry will be going for shoes again at the end of the month. My sister has bought him some book ends and a money box for his birthday so at least thats no more toys from there (although I get nephews ones anyway as I say)

Happy birthday to Henry for tomorrow - I will be struggling with cake mix myself as Archie's is on Wednesday and I want to make the first one (that or pop up to tesco's late tuesay for a replacement).

New shoes due for Archie too ...can't believe he's on his second pair already.

We have a plastic fantastic birthday pressie too (a thomas ride on)...just couldn't think of anything he needed and could also fit in the house...all very well wanting a big ride in car with parent handle but not much use in my tenny tiny house. Mind you for a second we decided not to bother and put the money towards a WII ..just seemed too mean though. lolol.:rotfl:
