Maz, Poppy has 2 bottles of formula a day (morning and night) and I still sterilise and will continue to do so until she no longer has them. The steriliser is not going far anytime soon anyway! And yes, I still wind her after each one
.
And Happy Birthday Samantha :j

Glad your trip went well, Keely! I have yet to venture out with Poppy even though my Mum is desperate for her to stay over! She has her own nursery and naps there twice a week when Mum has her though
.
Hope all is going well!

Maz - I stopped sterilising bottles and caps at around 6 months and teats at a year. I figure when they're mobile and can put all sorts in their mouths, then it's fair game to calm down with the sterilising. Plus they really need exposure to bacteria in order to build up an immune system, it can be quite damaging to overprotect!
Are you still using a teat with your bottles? Both my boys were off a teat and onto a spout at 6 months but my daughter is 18 months and is not for giving up the teat at all. In fairness, she doesn't have a dummy so that's one good thing but I really would rather she was drinking from a cup all the time.0 -
Blotted, is there a reason why teats should not be used? I figured that some over ones are still breastfed so it shouldn't be an issue?0

Thanks blottedcopybook.
He still has a bottle with teat 1st thing am, last thing at night and odd bottlw during day but cup for all other drinks although will take milk in cup as well (just the same as when he is nursert) I just seem to remember something (may even have been on here) about the teats not always getting properly cleaned so sterilising helps...Just wondered what other people do thats all out of interest.
Trust me I'm all for building up immune system.. what with dog and LO picking up everything to chew.Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -

I stopped sterlising all Rhys' bit snad pieces (except bottles and teats) when he started putting everything in his mouth around 6 months. I continued to sterlise his bottles and teats until 12 months, when he changed to a cup for his warm (cows) milk before bed.0 -

I'm quite neurotic about teeth anyway because I had 'buck' teeth as a kid and got bullied mercilessly for it, so even if it's only a tenuous link between dummies/teats and protruding teeth I'm still going to try and follow the advice to get them onto cups! Daughter just doesn't agreeThanks blottedcopybook.

I stopped sterilising a few months ago, until then it was just part of a routine, but now that we only use one or two bottles a day the steriliser had to go. I wasn't worried about germs after 6 or 7 months really. As for the bottles I have no idea - my nephew (4yo) still has his bedtime milk with a teat, so I never knew different, Joseph drinks water out of anything. I'm more worried about my reluctance to give him cows milk! For some reason I seem to believe that formula contains more minerals and vitamins, someone enlighten me!
As for winding, I shouldn't think he'd let me hold him when he's eager to get back to his toys! Besides once they sit up, they can work on burps quite effectively on their own. Nice.:wall:0 -
:bdaycake: My baby is 1 today :bdaycake: .
Bless her, she has been an angel, and is still in her pj's.
We had a lovely little party for her yesterday. We had a BBQ on the back veranda, protected at crutial times under an umbrella but everyone had a lovely time, and then we had some more friends pop around for birthday cake. Thank goodness I did two. Made her a puffle cake, from Club Penguin, which looks more like an ninja turtle:p . Didn't realise how difficult it would be to make purple icing sugar  .
Anyhow, she has managed to open all of today's pressies (from us), but I have more family visiting this afternoon.
She is a loveable little girl, and we all love her to bits.
Thanks for all your birthday wishes !!!:T0 -
