• Hiya!

Benjamin is on my lap in cute little green stripey dungarees - we like to dress up when we go to Booby Club :D

Actually, I get Benjamin dressed in proper clothes every day, in jersey type fabric wherever possible so he is comfy. For me sleepsuits are for sleeping so putting one on is part of getting ready for a big sleep...well a good 6 1/2 hours anyway ;):D

I am off to clinic in a while and I am going to ask the HV to measure him again...at 9 1/2 weeks his 3-6 month sleepsuits are only just big enough for him length wise :o If my rough measurement of him is correct then he may be well above the 91st centile.

Benjamin has also started biting my nipple (or should I say gumming). It is a definite bite down with no eating-type movements. I have been taking him off and saying 'no' and he gives me a big grin, little b00ger
I am trying not to make too much of a fuss or over-react, although it does hurt! Any other tips?

Yay - go Imogen :D

LB - when we weaned Imogen the advice was to avoid berries until after 6 months and then only introduce one at a time. As you say, if she had some yesterday and today and the reaction was going to be severe, you'd know by now! If you're only doing one new thing at a time it will make it easier to pick up any reactions.

On nuts - Imogen hasn't really had any. The odd cashew nut when I've been eating them in the last few months and some flaked almonds in a Tagine I made, but that's all. She's never had peanut butter but not for any reason other than I just haven't given it to her. Maybe I'll give her some on toast for supper. She loves jam and special 'bee jam' (honey).

When is it okay for them to have whole nuts? I'd like for her to snack on something like that and, although she has baby eczema, we're sure it isn't linked to any kind of food intolerance so she should be fine to have them. It's just a choking thing isn't it?

V excited - DH's going to build her new swing & slide this weekend, yeah!

Final thing to share for now. Imogen went on her big cousin's new trampoline last week. It's a 6' one with a net round the sides. According to MIL she loved it, but she's now convinced she doesn't need to hold on when bouncing on her little trampoline (the square with a handle type) and keeps bouncing off! It's in our dining kitchen so she lands straight on the wooden floor and keeps banging herself. We've told her a couple of times, but figure she needs to learn for herself so we're just letting her get on with it. Is that mean?!!

We've got a strawberry patch and they'll be ready in about 4-6 weeks. LO will be 8months by then and I'm planning to let him have a few. Its so confusing with all the different advice on baby food. My book says not to give anything in the nightshade family until 9 months (ie tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, aubigine?) but says nuts are ok from 7 months as long as no family history of allergies?? How old were your LO before you introduced nuts? x

Lu - chris holds on and still falls off the little trampoline! (sometimes I think he's had one too many bumps to the head :p)

Whole nuts should be avoided until around 5ys
bluesqu.gif Nuts
Whole nuts and seeds must be avoided until the age of five as young children can easily choke on them. Ground or pur!ed nuts and seeds are fine and nutritious, for example smooth peanut butter, tahini (sesame seed paste) or ground almonds.

Sounds a bit harsh when u first read it but then again I still manage to choke on them and I'm in my 20's :rotfl:

lwcus78 - the only food I had an age restriction on was honey as far as I remember. I just gave Chris whatever fruit or veg I had in the fridge

All I can say is wait til he has teeth:eek: No your doing it right take him off and say no but not too much fuss and just keep doing it everytime he does it.
I agree with you you babygros are a sign of off to bed for a long sleep, I also dress El in joggers or leggings and tshirts if were going no where but put her in proper clothes if were going out.

• Well I was right!!

Benjamin has grown 2.5 cm in 2 weeks

He is now 64.5 cm at 9 1/2 weeks which puts him just over the 98th centile :D what a tall boy!!

He weighs 13 lb 4 oz which is still on the 75th centile so he is tall and skinny!

HV said to check that he is still latched on properly and talked to me about changing positions as he gets bigger...but agreed that he may just be being a little s0d!

I wanted to ask about clothes, Fergie is 10 weeks and will probably be needing to go up to his 3-6 month clothes from his 0-3 soon. Thing is, whilst I'm packing away the 0-3 or newborn clothes I'm realising there's lots of lovely things he's been given that he's never worn, usually little versions of grown up outfits like t shirts and trousers.

Do you guys experience the same thing, that babygros and a vest with poppers are so much easier for incessant nappy changes that that's all they wear?!

What is the point of the little dungaree outfits for 0-3 month babies?

I'd be interested in your thoughts!
We didn't start putting Alice in "proper" clothes till about five months and exchanged most of the little clothes she was given as presents for larger sizes. She did wear a dress for a wedding when she was three months (and for the journey on the way on holiday but I can't remember why) but we'd been given loads of clothes from OH's step cousin once removed who had had brand new stuff for her baby so she just wore one of them. We had intended to use vests/babygrows for longer but didn't for two reasons: 1. dresses are more convenient for the toilet and 2. Alice was long so was in older babygrows than her age and older babies have longer legs relative to their body so the legs were too long.

I had a lookie at these bumbos you're all keen on, ermm.... being a bit thick but can't see the benefit over a recliny rocker chair with straps. But people really rate them, what's the benefit?
They last a lot longer. We had to stop using the bouncy seat at five months because Alice could tip it over by trying to sit up whereas we used the Bumbo up to around ten months.

They're not supposed to have whole nuts before age 5 because of choking. It really amused me that when my friends 4yo did the challenge test for peanuts at the hospital she had whole peanuts.

Is that an "official" book or a commercial book? I've only read long complicated stuff like that in commercial books. My HV said before six months only fruit, veg and baby rice then after that just whatever you eat but before 12 months no nuts, or honey and avoid too much sugar and salt. The doctor said that the standard advice is no nuts at all before age 2. (We consulted him because of OH's peanut allergy and he told us just to follow the standard advice.) We are currently avoiding all nuts except almonds because Alice had a reaction to cashews (she'd already been fine with almonds) but the doctor didn't seem bothered so we're going to wait till we've moved and consult our new doctor since our friends have managed to get allergy tests for their kids without them even having a reaction.

Medication doesn't make me drowsy luckily. It is a very old medication, but was the only one that is suitable for breastfeeding, doesn't make people drowsy and was suitable for me because of past reactions. I have a very good GP who really knows his stuff, and went through every type of antidepressant to find the best one for me! Not easy!

It was lovely having him in the bed, he (and I!) slept better than any other night. I don't roll over in my sleep, and I'm a really light sleeper.

I think I might read up about co-sleeping, do you know of any good sources of info so I can think about it?

Why do they say fat people shouldn't do it?

Oh - I just bathed him for the first time! Don't worry, he wasn't a really smelly 5 week old, my Mum has done all the bathing up till now :o

He hasn't latched on for a while, but he is showing a lot of interest. He has a really small mouth, and I'm quite well endowed - do you think that is adding to the struggle? I'm starting to feel a bit better now, so will ask the HV what help is available soon - I want to track down someone gentle and patient who can help us try again.
Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.
