I'm glad I'm not the only one singing non-traditional songs to the baby, Celia likes The Camptown Races while she has her nappy changed and Minnie The Moocher before bed. The choices are appalling but it wasn't intentional!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0

LOL - Benjamin allowed me to give him a full rendition of Somewhere over the rainbow the other day...brought out the judy in me!!
Camptown races...don't know the words but I could do plenty of 'doo-dah'-ing!!! I like it!
Benjamin also likes the Deal or No Deal theme tune sang in all kinds of words... rat-ta-ta-ta-ta or poopy-poopy-poo or rinky-tinky-tink

I can STILL remember the words to one of the Mog books (We have a BIG stretch in the morning. I have to put on my clothes but Mog just wears her fur.) and Little Rabbit Foo Foo! (The line about "I don't like your Attitude" is particularly useful in the Toddler years, but also in the Teenage years, IMO!) We also had to read "I am a Rabbit" to DS1 every night, but he always asked for "My am a Rabbit."
And I always used to sing "What shall we do with the crying (boy's name)?" to the tune of What shall we do with the drunken sailor. That shut them up, I can tell you. :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sorry to be a pain MFD, I like the look of Benjamin's hammock. Do you use it as your crib/cot? Do you rock it gently so that Benjamin falls asleep?
LO currently sleeps in bed with me on his tummy because he wont settle in the cot. It looks good but is a lot of money if he doesn't like it.0 -
I was glad we were on our own actually MFD - spot on:)
I sing Oasis songs to Kai...have done to all of them!! Maybe because they are the only songs I know all the words to every single song....

Beatles songs - I'd not thought of that! Izzy loves listening to folk music (and rock music and whatever they play on the radio - she's not fussy yet) so I sing her bits i can remember of folk songs too, but my memory for lyrics is terrible. at the moment I can get away with singing the "wiggle wiggle bounce bounce boing boing" song to whatever tune comes into my head, but I'm sure that will get boring once she starts understanding what I'm on about.
Beccles - the thought of you sticking other pictures under the flaps made me giggle. I will have to remember that one!Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

I love stars shining
A good one to sing if ur OH is into it or in my case its one my sis n I used to sing alot is california dreaming
I love 'old' music it always annoys me when young pop stars are being interveiwed and say things like they don't know who abba or paul wellar etc are its beyond me(but obviously they don't have a dad like mine that is an expert on all forms of poular music since god knows when)
but seriously how can you not be interested in music that was the soundtrack to massive changes in society etc0 -
We have the sleepiest baby in the world today - must be growing, as all she has done today (other than an half hour or so nappy-off-joyful-kick-and-stretch this afternoon and a bit of a sing song this morning) is eat, sleep and moan about being tired/hungry.
It's time for starting the bedtime routine, but she is asleep so I can't! Will have a nice long splashy bath when she wakes up, and then put her back to bed when she is ready. No idea how we will get on tonight - could go either way really. Tired baby sleeping all night, or awake baby who has been asleep all day!Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

You are not being a pain at all. We bought the hammock instead of a moses basket and we bought an extra frame for the bedroom (currently unused).
When Benjamin was tiny he didn't like the hammock much so we have been using the carrycot from his pram for him to sleep in at night. He still settles very well in there so we are still using that at night but we won't be for long because he will outgrow it soon enough.
The hammock is in the living room and I put him down in it when he is sleepy but not necessarily fully asleep. I then sit on the floor in front of it and gently bounce him from below (if he can see me he won't close his eyes!!) and talk to him...it can take anything from two or three minutes to maybe ten or even twenty but I used to spend that time rocking or doing the 'try to remove my nipple' dance!
When he stirs and begins to cry I just bounce him lightly and shush him and he goes back to sleep...sometimes he bounces himself and sends himself back off before I get to him
