    Hi all,

Anyone have any experience with baby modelling? babyworld.co.uk identified some "reputable" agencies and my wife submitted a pic to Scallywags, who now have invited him in for a test shoot. The test shoot is free of charge, but if they agree he should be a model there is an annual fee of £175 for appearing on their books...

Do they invite mostly everyone in for test shoots? The studio is in Ilford which isn't massively convenient. I suppose the agency annual fee thing is pretty normal, but you'd have to get several pieces of work through it just to break even...

Any stories or insights welcome! :) I lurk on this thread a lot but post rarely. Our son is Elijah, just turned 9 months old and obviously good-looking enough to be a model ;)

I thought the government had banned modeling agencies from charging any fees up front??
My son was invited for a test shoot with Euro kids and accepted on their books about 18mths ago but I have since let his license lapse because I never heard anything from them and they wanted to charge for another shoot which I thought was silly considering his original pics were taken when he was just crawling and he's now a walking talking little boy!
PS. Eurokids was recommended as reputable in a baby magazine - not sure which now tho

Reading their FAQ, the charge is for pictures hosted on their website, rather than a sign-up fee. Sounds cheeky, but who knows.

    Here he is!

Also, just a quick question about BF, Ryan was a bit poorly the other day and was really inconsolable, so OH suggested giving him my breast (I've still got milk in there) so I did.
Anyway, can I carry on giving him the breast as well as FF even though he has been Formula fed since coming out of hospital (I did BF in hospital in the end) or would that just confuse him.
As long as you and the baby are both happy there's no reason why not and the breastmilk he gets will still be beneficial.
I heard something interesting from HV yesterday - the WHO recommendation not to wean before 6 months is referring to weaning completely off the breast, rather than what we would refer to as weaning. It's all because of babies in the 3rd world being weaned onto bottles without the facilities to steralise them. So a bit of baby rice and banana before 6 months is perfectly ok, just not before 17 weeks. We start our big weaning adventure net week - I will keep you all posted!
The WHO do not recommend not to wean before six months - it is the UK who do. I have actually read loads of the WHO stuff on breastfeeding (including studies and discussion of breastfeeding practice and recommendations for Kuwait, the CAR and a few random African countries). They actually recomend that introduction of solids should be...

[pops downstairs to find file with printouts]

"For the WHO European Region, it is recommended that all infants should be exclusively breastfed from birth to about 6 months of age, and at least the first 4 months of life. Some infants may need complementary foods before six months of age, but these should not be introduced before 4 months."

It also says that governments may wish to say "about 6 months" rather than "4-6 months" because, "Health professionals may misinterpret the recommendation and so encourage the introduction of complementary foods by 4 months, just to be 'on the safe side'. As a result, parents may believe that their chidlren should be eating complementary foods by the time they reach 4 months and therefore introduce "tastes" of food before 4 months." In the 2000 infant feeding survey (the last with the 4-6 month recommendation, 49% of people started weaning before 4 months and 49% at 4-6 months.

The WHO do say that in non-industrial countries where there is a higher risk of introducing infection with complementary foods, it is better to advise about 6 months rather than 4-6 as there is no evidence of any benefit from starting sooner than 6 months.

For actual breastfeeding the WHO recommend all babies be breastfed up to two years or longer (the UK recommendation is up to one year or longer).

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with starting to wean between 4 and 6 months but your health visitor is misinformed about the WHO recommendations.

Oooh I'll have to tell OH I found someone with a baby called Elijah. It's one of the names I want but he thinks it's too uncommon.

Hehe :) we chose it because it's quite uncommon but not insanely so; also my wife's American and it's more popular there, top 30 boy's names or so!

If only we could move to the US - Old Testament boy's names seem to be much more popular generally there.
