Also, just a quick question about BF, Ryan was a bit poorly the other day and was really inconsolable, so OH suggested giving him my breast (I've still got milk in there) so I did.
Anyway, can I carry on giving him the breast as well as FF even though he has been Formula fed since coming out of hospital (I did BF in hospital in the end) or would that just confuse him.
He seemed fine the other day, I think he's the type of baby who would latch on to anything, well actually he does, he got hold of me lip the other day when I was kissing him and started sucking away :rotfl::j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

Course you canAs long as you're happy popping him on there and he's happy being there then there's nothing to stop you.

AM, if anything giving him a bit of boobie milk would be a good thing I would imagine - even if it is just a little bit he will still be getting the benefit from it, and he sounds like he isn't getting confused!
The only thing I can think of is thay you won't know how much boobie milk he is getting, so you might want to keep an eye on his weight and maybe reduce formula feeds a bit if he is gaining loads quicker than he should be? Probably worth discussing with HV next time you go for a weigh in? (edited to add - this is just a possibility I've thought of rather than me knowing anything about anything)
I heard something interesting from HV yesterday - the WHO recommendation not to wean before 6 months is referring to weaning completely off the breast, rather than what we would refer to as weaning. It's all because of babies in the 3rd world being weaned onto bottles without the facilities to steralise them. So a bit of baby rice and banana before 6 months is perfectly ok, just not before 17 weeks. We start our big weaning adventure net week - I will keep you all posted!Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

I know that BFing was something you really weren't 'into' and I'm so proud you gave it a whirl! What a fab, clever lil' one Ryan is too for latching on after not having done it for a while :T
I really feel for your friend, I'm sure her other friend and OH are trying to be supportive but calling her selfish is soo not helpful!! poor luv I hope she can get through it with her nice friends like you xxx0 -
R.Mac, the first thing i would say to you is make sure you are healthy ie iron levels. You need plenty of vit C to help your body to absorb iron. Foods rich in iron include eggs, dark green leafy veg, prunes, lean red meat.
Nettle tea is good source of iron and also helps to increase milk supply. I also drank fennel tea and ate quinoa.
My DH is obsessed with healthy eating and so after my birth (C-section) he really did look after me making healthy food, leaving a lunch in the fridge for me, making sure plenty of snacks around the house. I totally forgot about house work. (I dont know how 2nd time mum's cope!)
When I was in hospital, I was expressing milk as LO was prem and had a feeding tube. I found the days I was upset I didn't produce much milk. So, I would agree with Feeling if you say things that make you feel happy then you will produce more milk. The worst thing we can do is worry about not producing enough milk. I think that as mothers we expect too much from ourselves and put too much pressure on ourselves.

Good morning!
Day 2 of bedtime routine went just as well as the first with the added bonus that Benjamin fell asleep with DH and DH put him down - great for boosting daddy's confidence and convincing him that he is absolutely as capable as mummy :T

Right - one babe sleeping fast.
Got my hair cut yesterday, it's just a shorter version of before...again . The hairdresser barely said two words to me, when I told her it was my first escape on my own after having a baby she just said 'oh'. She was only a young thing but surely they teach you some bits of small talk at hairdressing school...how old, boy or girl, name' accompanied by comments of 'that's lovely'... How bl00dy hard can it be! Needless to say she didn't get a tip.
I think I am just too old for Toni and Guy now...they make me feel ancient and frumpy because I am not wearing ripped jeans and dying the short side of my hair bright pink  I need to find me a blue rinse salon where they will chat carp at me for an hour
I digress - Benjamins poos are all sorted...he is definitely no longer bunged up! The HV suggested I double his dose of infacol to 2 droppers per feed and it seems to have helped him with passing wind - I was sceptical but it really seems to make a difference to him.
Cheapest place I have found for infacol is home bargains...any advances on £2.89 for a bottle?
I am eating tons of yoghurt because I am convinced I need calcium - have I got muddled up??please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
MFD - you need to find a nice hair dresser who has a family
Mine loves nothing more than to talk about pooh, sleepless nights etc and he's a blokeIn fact I must make an app before its too late - only 4 weeks to go!! one of the girls that does my colour was due in April too so there'll be some new baby pics when I go - yey!
on the calcium thing I think its an old wives tale that you need to drink milk to make milk, doesn't stop my auntie insisting on giving me a glass whenever I go tho!0
