    Afternoon all,

Going out to a party tonight, woo hoo, first time we have been out without the kids since Ello was born, slightly worried about the fact that I am likely to leak all over the place/get really full and painful and about the fact that I am still going to be up every 3ish hours even though I'll have been up late and had a couple of drinks, but really excited about leaving the house without nappies in my handbag !

Does anyone know why you are not supposed to shake expressed breastmilk?

    Never heard that one before!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Yes apparently you are supposed to swirl it rather than shake it, but I don't find that swirling really gets it all back together so I shake it anyway but I just wondered why and all i can find is references to it changing the nutritional value of it which I just don't believe.

    Sami & em,

I sort of bled till 2-3wks then just browny 'end of line' stuff till about 4wks and nothing since:confused:

I can't remember how long it was until I had a period after the other two, I have such a bad memory:o

I had also heard of the shewee, was it on dragons den or something like that??

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.
  • A period!! I have only just stopped bleeding from the birth!!

I have been trying to give Benjamin water again this afternoon because we have hit nearly 48 hours since his two explosive poos and he is really uncomfortable again.

MM - I shake breastmilk...I don't even want to know about why you shouldn't - so many bl00dy rules!!

Going out is fab isn't it. MIL came over last night and we popped to the pub for a couple of hours...we felt like naughty teenagers! Saw MIL at lunchtime and she says she thinks we should go out twice a week!!! We probably won't even manage once a week but it is certainly going to be a regular event :D

Glad to hear you are okay mel, just keeping an eye on you ;) and making sure you know we are here if you want to moan/rant/chat!

Sami - jazzy cardi???? How old are you? You sound like my mum :rotfl:

you're not supposed to shake breast milk vigorously as it breaks up something or other in it - cant remember hang on - nope can't find it - something about the fats or enzymes or something or other. anyway its better to "gently swirl" and not shake.
    DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY ;)

I am Ok, thanks. Haven't been contacted by HV yet, she said she would be back out at 6wks - so I have no idea really!
Had my 6wk check at docs though, which went fine. She asked if I have had a period yet?? It's a bit soon for that don't you think?

    How are you??

    Mel x

I think everyone is different. It took me almost a year but I think that was due to breastfeeding - it was great while it lasted!

This will probably sound really sad but OH and I have only been out together once since Tom was born, and OH has only been out once on his own! We keep promising to go out but never get round to arranging anything.

Having said that, in two week's time I am going away to London...overnight... without any of my immediate family! We're going to see Mamma Mia but I'm most looking forward to an uninterrupted night's sleep in a hotel!

Been to Flamingoland today as a "trial run" for theme parks on holiday and Tom behaved brilliantly though there were hardly any rides suitable for the whole family, only really little rides or height restriction rides, nothing we could all go together except for the train and the monorail. The new pushchair was perfect though and Tom even had an hour's sleep in it.
  • Choc - it doesn't sound sad at all - horses for courses and all that. We used to go out a lot and we are still quite a new couple (we have only been together for 3 1/2 years...although married for nearly 3!) so to us it is important to make extra special time for each other. Other people relax in different ways.

My brother and SIL went out for the first time a few months ago and their youngest is 3!! They probably think I am a terrible mother!
