Just thought I'd share a tip I've been trying recently, as a few peeps have been commenting on post-baby weight loss etc...
Seems too tricky to count calories with a new baby, and too pricey and not very MSE to buy weight conscious ready meals (which are a bit vile anyway!:p) so I've been making gigantic batches of double concentrated soup and storing them in the little 25p asda food saver tubs in the freezer...
which will also be useful for little meals when I'm weaning Fergie:D. Then I just add up the cals in the whole batch, and divide by the number of pots. My pea soup for todays lunch cost less than 11p per portion each of which contains 70 calories, and all I had to do was nuke it and add water!:T
Some will no doubt think me mad, but others may like the tip!
Love weezl x

A very weezl-esque tip:D I love your logical approach to everything!
Just a thought - you won't be weaning for another 3 or 4 months...is it a little bit early

LOL, yes very me, very geeky.
Yes, I'm not thinking of weaning til he's 4-6months, but I've been thinking in advance, and bought 20 little pots. Was going to make some vegetable purees in bulk and freeze them....
Now you think I'm really mad!
Is benjamin being a lovely boy today?

How long will the puree keep? and how much are you thinking of doing when you say 'bulk'?
Not only is it a few months til you are due to start weaning, they only eat a tiny tiny amount at first and even just one carrot pureed would last you a few meals, you don't really need to start doing it in bulk until they are actually eating and getting most of their calories from food and by that time you'll be interested in the texture and getting them to eat lumps.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
don't be too strict with yourself on the calorie front weezle - esp if you are breastfeeding (sorry - can't remember if you are or not). I'm not having that problem - the weight has fallen off I just wish it toned my tummy area at hte same time! Can't have it all I suppose
I'm not interested AT ALL in s8x yet - and that's almost 12 wks. I'm sure I'll get there eventually. DH is being very patient with meAlthough even if I was interested how on earth I would find the energy I do not know :rotfl:
I have a weaning schedule for 17wks onwards that I'm planning on trying - starts very slowly with baby rice and builds up and I plan on making lots of veggie purees so have little pots at the ready like you weezle. I can't say that I worried about the clothes pegs matching colourwise (mind you I used wooden ones!) but I am a bit obsessed with straightening things out properly!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I think she plans on using the tubs for soup for herself until she needs them for baby:heart: I love my gorgeous little girl0

Thanks millie's mum, I'm going to make batches, freeze little amounts for fergie, the pots are only as big as 2 ice cubes!
I don't think I explained myself very well! The batches of purees are a double concentrated calorie counted soup for me, I'm not going to make any for Fergie for quite a while and he's eating bigger amounts!
I just was meaning that the little tubs are very MSE cos they are only 25p and have many useful uses!:money:
Sorry, I hope that makes more sense now! I have Annabel Karmel's book and will be making batches of a few of her recipes (the vegan ones) in about a month or so... Vegetables are freezer safe for at least 3 months, so he'll be 6 months by then and hopefully temptable with a little butternut squash

OMG - why did I ever not think of wooden clothes pegs!! All of mine are white and blue and I have to use 2 the same for each piece of clothing (I used to have a range of colours but it upset me too much!!)
A weaning schedule...nah - there is no way in the world that Benjamin will do anything to any schedule other than his own.
Weezl - he is being an angel this morning...he has been asleep in his hammock for 90 minutes :A he did have a terrible screaming fit when we were napping in my bed earlier but when I picked him up he had wee'd out of the side of his nappy
Hope he is just as good for MIL this afternoon
Hope fergie is being an angel for you.

Hiya,
A quick benefits question....
I applied for child benefit as soon as I had registered my baby, but they haven't yet sent me my official numbers and stuff...
I think I need that number to apply for tax credits though?
If I don't do that within 3 months I cant backdate it, but it seems a bit unfair if it's a holdup with the child benefit people!
Anyone had any similar problems? What did you do?
Weezl x
Hiya - not sure if anyone has answered as i've just quickly scanned through. But, Tax Credits don't need any official info. I phoned to ask if i needed CHB stuff first, and they just took babies name and date of birth, and I got notification in the post a couple of days later.
Thats why it was so easy for that person a while back to be claiming tax credits for about 25 non-existant children!:beer:0
