Green pooh's tend to be a sign that he's getting a lot of the thinner milk that comes at the beginning of a feed but not enough of the rich fatty milk that comes later... Is it one green one in between lots of good yellow ones or just one green one and nothing else?

If you're getting lots of yellow ones too then it's less of a worry, just means that once in a while your positioning might of been off for a feed, or he spent a day snacking and not feeding properly...

If you're only getting green ones and not very often then you really need to speak to your health visitor or local breastfeeding supporter about your positioning...

Yes, he's been snacking a lot recently. I've been told to give him smaller feeds less often to help his reflux. His weight gain has been slower recently too, about 4oz per week. I've got appt with paediatrician again next week.
    Thanks for your reply. xx

If you're giving smaller feeds then try to offer the same side again at the next feed... As long as it even's out at the end of the day (you've fed about the same from both sides) then it shouldn't cause a supply problem... And remember weight gain can slow at times, like when they get a bit more mobile, it's not always a feeding thing...

If you have a look on kellymom.com they have some information on breastfeeding a reflux baby too... And good luck with the paediatrician, hope it's a better experience for you than we had yesterday!

Hello everyone, wow lots of new mums, lots of sick mums, lots of feeding and teething problems. Hello to you all, hope you all get better soon!

We have had an.... "immodium" WEEK here too, so can't stay for long :D, but at least Joseph is all better - it was lovely to have a cuddly toddler, sat on the sofa with me watching tv for a week, but that's all over now :o.

Sami-Bee - I picked up immodium (how expensive!) because it promised to get rid of cramps which had me doubled over at the time, so there :p

We've got our 6 week check tomorrow. I can't remember my last ones (a very long time ago) - so anyone with recent memories, what do they do?

Do they look at your lady bits? (i'm wondering if I need to bother to tidy!)

Wow Krystal, thank you soooo much for that link. Its brilliant! You are brilliant!
My baby was born low birth weight 2 months early after having intra uterine growth restriction. Basically my placenta wasn't working from about week 27 of preg. We spent 3 weeks in neonatal intensive care as his blood sugar level was so low. He was off the percentile chart to start off with but then he started to thrive, climbing up the percentile chart until he reached the 50th percentile. The Gp and HV kept telling me I was doing a marvelous job and I felt happy that my baby was doing well. Over the last 6 weeks, he has dropped back down to just above the 25th percentile on the chart. The GP now want him to be weighed weekly because she is concerned that his weight has dropped on percentile chart but as I mentioned, he is still putting on 4oz a week. I have been so worried the last few weeks that I haven't got enough milk and questioning wether to wean him early. Reading that link tells me this is the normal pattern and indeed gaining 4oz a week is fine for a b fed 5 month old baby.
The green poos have only started since we have been giving smaller feeds so I'll start feeding from each boob as you said
You must get sooo frustrated with GP's and HV not supporting b feeding mothers. I know they have to be careful that babies are gaining weight but they should be aware of different growth patterns in babies. I am sooo grateful for your advice and support. xx

My GP just asked me about contreception. She didn't even ask me if my scar was ok!!
  • 3onitsway - she didn't look at my bits, or do blood pressure or anything. Physical checks were all for the baby, she just asked me lots of questions.

Izzy is STILL asleep (has been 2.5 hours now!) I know she is going to be starving when she wakes up (I can tell because I feel like I'm going to pop ;) ), but at least I've got quite a bit done. If it wasn't for the internet I would have done a lot more, but never mind :rotfl: . I'm not too bothered, as in laws are coming to do more kitchen stuff this evening, so no idea when we will get her off to sleep today!

I think they lose all interest in your lady bits after the first week,... Can't remember my 6wk check up.. It was 5 years ago...

lwcus, really glad I can be of help! And it does get frustrating, especially because even with extra training I still have to tell women to listen to their health proffesionals... Even when they're talking out of their ar5es! Some Drs can be really helpful and pro-breastfeeding but if they only have basic knowledge then they err on the side of caution... And weighing babies weekly is never the way to go... But sadly I don't think anything is going to change... All we can do is give Mum's the information and empower them to believe in themselves and their abilities...

IME if its the one that is plus or something it didn't make a difference to me :p
the own brand ones have only just come out so I assume there was some kind of copyright type thing on lopromide.
I go for the own brand one every time now (well can't have it while preg and don't need it as I'm on lactulose at the mo ) and then for cramps have some fennel or ginger ;) Check me - actually saving money for once!

    - my 6week check (2yrs ago) I don't think GP even touched me :rotfl: and I'd gone to all the effort of showering and shaving etc... poor hubby thought things where back to 'normal' when he saw my smooth legs and then all he got was a nice big hug :p
