That's reminded me of my Gran. She really hated names being shortened and thought everyone should be called their full Christian name at all times.
So what did she call her two children? Susan and Brian
Then she spent the rest of her life complaining when they got called Sue and Bri
My Grandma thought that too. She started her family off with Margaret and Robert and by the time she got a few down the line they were Tom, Ann, Ray, Bill, Jim. I think she couldn't really be bothered to think of names and she once said she didn't really like any name. People used to suggest them and if they were short she would say "That'll do!" It really annoyed her that my uncle's work name badge said William when he was christened Bill but he said his work insisted his name was really William and wouldn't give him a Bill badge as they didn't do nicknames!
My Mam also thinks you shouldn't shorten names and says Tom should have just been Tom and not Thomas if that's what we wanted to call him.0 -
I'm Jennifer but have always been known as Jenni/Jen - only DH and the Dr's surgery call me by my real name!
.
And both my sisters have long names shortened too which is why I chose short names for my babies. My Mum says she just loved our names . I said she must like mine the least as I'm her third and last! :rotfl:.
We agonised for ages over names so it would seem a bit odd to me to then call them something else?.

My full name is Nicola there were 2 of us at primary school and 4 in secondary so I shortened my name and changed the spelling to Nikki still stands today, I only ever got Nicola growing up when I was in trouble.
DD's full name is Caitlin, I've called her Katie but she will have the choice as to what to call herself when she is older.
Katie is also easier for her to say at the moment as she is only 22 months old.
MDWProud to be dealing with my debts

I'm Louise and always was until I was in my teens. Then my dad and step-mum would call me Lu (I went through a 'phase' and decided Lou was too common!).
Now pretty much everyone except my mum and people at work call me Lu - unless they're in my team. There are 2 Louises (other one is 15 years older though) so for simplicity I'm Lu.
Oddly, I don't ever introduce myself as Lu, always Louise and then graduate to Lu.
Shortening was something we considered when naming Imogen. We didn't want something that could easily be shortened, and i HATE Imi, so if we shorten Imogen it's to Gen, which quite suits her. TBH we don't do that much though.
OH has just categorically ruled out Ned  Just when I was really starting to like it. :-(MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
