I hope your father won't take it personally if I say "What a ridiculous notion!" :rotfl: Not a lot of forethought there ...
don't worry i whole heartedly agree! i think he maybe had a bit too much macho pride and wanted us all to be like him  . He apparently was very cross that my older brother and sister don't have brown eyes like him (i do though), and he was disappointed that Oz's eyes didnt go brown - eejit  .
little Oz has a double barrelled surname as i didnt change my name when i got married - what does everyone think of those? my OH still isnt convinced that it doesnt sound incredibly snobbish!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I have a middle name which I hate - Rosalyn - but I always use my middle initial.
i was MIL asking about family names and she said, "Well, Pete's Grandma Pat was actually called martha!". Don't think Pat was anywhere on her birth certificate, but everyone knew her as that. OH didn't even know.
Caz - Erin is lovely. Imogen waas nearly Erin as that was OH's #1 choice.
Ladybird - hope Izzy didn't sleep too long and you get a more restful night. We've just returned from a day at the farm with a friend and her hyper 5 yr old son. Had a great day, but both kids were knackered. imogen's currently sat by her bedroom door occasionally crying "I want a cuddle2. Doing this is a bit like controlled crying, more like controlled whining :rotfl: I'm wondering whether she's going to give up and get herself back in bed before i drag myself and rpaidly increasing bump up there...MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Oh bless her! Izzy is awake now, and after a really big feed she is happyly under her new baby gym. We had it hidden away in the garage, but after she enjoyed playing on one yesterday it was definitely time to get it out to play with

Oh, we moved on from there to her new trick, "I want a wee wee,". Cue full blown tantrum - rolling on the floor kicking legs - after she's had 5 minutes on the loo and no wee forthcoming. In the end I came downstairs and said I wasn't talking to her until she calmed down. Did that twice before she was calm enough to talk. Then bargained that we'd go back to the loo to try one more time before putting on a new nappy, having a cuddle and her snuggling down. Hopefully that's the end of it.
She's so tired and got herself in a right state. I hate seeing her like that. Can't wait for that book on moods to turn up so we can give her some language and understanding about what's going on.
Glad Izzy likes her gym. imogen could spend hours under hers once we bought a brightly coloured one. Were leant a lovely M&P one in shades of beige and it did absolutely nothing for her - although it blended beautifully into the decor :rotfl:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
not being funny but why haven't you shortened it to Caity/Caitie ?
My friends Caitlyn is shorted to Caits.
A perfectly valid question Sami,
DH and I discussed it whilst I was pregnant.
DH is dyslexic so the conventional spelling makes it easier for him to spell, but also Katie herself will find it easier when she begins to learn.
I also didn't want Katie to have to keep spelling her name to people, I had an unusual maiden name that I had to spell ALL the time and found it very annoying I was very glad to change it.
If Katie changes the spelling when she is older that's fine, it's her name after all.

I too had an unusual surname that I always had to spell out (and people still usually spelled it wrong). Got married and I still have a surname that needs spelling out (and people still spell it wrong!)0 -

I never had a middle name. My parents always said it took them too long to decide on a first name. I kept my maiden name as my middle name when we got married though, as it is one that can be either. So AT LAST I have a middle initial. I've always wanted one, and it always seemed terribly unfair when I was little and I didn't have one but everyone else did!on the lack of middle name, I went through a phase when I was about 10 of insisting on being known as "Sammy Jo"
:rotfl:
I'm not too fussed now I always say "Just Sami" like "Just Jack" on Will n Grace:cool:chocaholic110 wrote: »Quite often we just call our daughter by her initial - H. Not sure how it started but it has stuck! I call my husband by his (our, lol) surname, more often that not.oops!

My husband always used to call me by my surname before we got married
My Dad calls me Becles - hence the user name! He normally yells it down the phone when he rings and I shout "Daaadddddyyyyyyy" back in a silly excited voiceHere I go again on my own....0 -

I still say Mummy and Daddy most of the time I think it sounds more loving although Chris finds it a bit confusing and sometimes calls Granddad Daddy.
He very funnily said when we were all sat at the table having dinner at the in-laws "Alan, What you doing?" (Alan is my FIL) he said it as if it was completely normal and refused to call him anything but Alan for the rest of the time we were there:rotfl:0 -
My uncle calls my aunt by her maiden surname and they've been married 35 years!
My mam and dad are divorced and the kids just call my mam's partner Kev. When DS was small he once saw someon being picked up from nursery by their grandparents and remarked "Oh, he's been picked up by his Grandma and his Kev".0
