  • I have a little boy in my class who I am sure can't see the whiteboard. If I ask him to sound out words or say what a picture is he aslways gets up and walks to the board, even though he sits right at the front. I spoke to his Mum who said he sits right up to the TV at home. Yet she still hasn't had his eyes tested!?!

And then when they do have them you have to make sure they wear them. Some opticians tell parents their children shouldn't wear them at playtime which usually results in them not wearing them at all in school unless you remind them.

No one has ever tested Imogen's eyes - not even the HV. But then, they are so crap round here she hasn't even had any kind of 2-yr check up. We're not concerned about how she's developing but I called as lots of the other babies have either had appointments through or a questionnaire in the post and was just asked if she was "meeting her milestones". Well, not being a trained HV I'm no 100% certain what they are - but she talks in 10-word sentences, feeds herself, has started trying to undress herself (not encouraing getting dressed or I'll be forever late for work!) and is settled at nurdery, playgroup and ballet.

Honestly! Our HV's are just so rubbish! Apparently you've even got to make an appt to have a newborn weighed and they will only do it every other month. There used to be drop-in clinics twice a week but that's no longer the case.

I've had glasses from being about 7 as I was long-sighted (and astygmatic - sp?). I'm not touching short-sighted but only wear glasses selectively. My brother was jealous for years and kept trying to fail his eye test but the optician was wise to it! Think he finally needed them at about 14 :T OH is annoyed cos he's always had 20:20 vision and this time he's been told he's going a bit shortsighted. Too little for a prescription right now, but they'll keep an eye on it. He has always been so smug about his 'perfect' eye sight!!

Am online cos i have some work to do but just not motivated. Imogen's sleeping off her ballet class which left her in tears because she decided she doesn't like Twinkle Twinkle. Odd, because it's her fave thing to sing. She doesn't quite understand 'why' just yet, so I have to phrase things a bit differently for her. but OH just said, "Why don't you like Twinkle Twinkle?" and she said, "BECAUSE, I just don't like Twinkle Twinkle now!" really earnestly! It's the first time she's used 'because' and it's all we've heard since she got back!

Going to make some pancakes when she wakes up, which won't be long now.:T

Yup, most of ours don't wear them at playtime. Though I do usually remember to tell them to put them back on as they usually don't look quite right without them!
  • When we were at my cousin's last week her little boy was the only one except for the babies without glasses on, so he had to find his pretend glasses out of his toy box and join in! :rotfl: Now he is a big brother he has decided he is not a baby any more and so will join in with the grown-ups. (He is 2!)

I'm crossing my fingers about Izzy's eyes. DH has 20:20 vision, but the rest of his family and everyone on my side of mine wear glasses. Cross fingers she takes after him and not me! Apart from anything else, I've probably had several grand spent on me so far at least, as my eyes are so bad, and are still getting worse. When I was a teenager I had to get new glasses 3 or 4 times a year, but now it is only every 18 months or so. Maybe I should start saving now just in case ;)

My poor Joseph, I went in to get him up from a huge nap - started in Sainsbury's and carried on in the cot. But he refused to wake up - he's full of cold, so just had a drink and fell back to sleep in my arms. Shall I just leave him to it? It's half six!! My instinct is let him sleep, but I've got a long night ahead .

My HV is rubbish Lu T.

She did a home visit when Charlotte was about 8 months old. She was still just laying flat on her back then, and had made no effort to sit up or roll over, and the HV was a bit concerned. She said she would pop back in a few weeks to see if she had made any progress. Charlotte is nearly 22 months now, and we're still waiting for the check up

I can remember the boys having checks where they had to build towers with bricks and thread beads on a string, but we've not had anything like that this time.
Here I go again on my own....

In similar circumstances I've left DS to sleep until I was almost ready for bed, changed his nappy, given him a dream feed in his room with the lights very low or off. He's usually gone through to the next morning.

Hope tonight is OK for you.

  • I'm still waiting for a 2 year check, or any attempt to contact me about one...

The last time a HV saw DS was his first birthday. He does however see the GP occasionally ( latest visit was a fortnight ago,) so it's not that no one has seen him since then...;)

Last time Chris had a check up by the HV was at 12mths (when he was referred to orthoptist) his next check up is due at 2.5yrs as they've changed it from 2yrs.
I saw MY HV a while back when I took him to be weighed so I asked if she'd got the note through to say I was expecting again and she hadn't but said it does take ages  but she put a note in her diary as for some silly reason I won't automatically be assigned her again  so she said they have a list in their office of who is expecting a new mum referral from a mum they already have.
She also made a note that baby is due just before Chris is due his 2.5yr check so she'll do both baby and him at the same time :D I love my HV she's great!
