hello ladies am looking for info on babies with relflux asit has hit us terribly, abi had it from a few weeks and over the past few days we have had the projectile vomiting from erin:( can i ask do you know when your babies are going to be sick? my OH thinks its strange as i know just before she is? i think she makes a sound but no one else has picked up on it but within a few secs she has thrown up everywhere. also she is very snuffly and has been since birth, the HV came today and said that it could be the phlem thats making her sick?

she said as she is putting on weight that she isnt worried but thats only as im having to refeed her?(she is breast fed) needless to say i wasnt too pleased and she will be coming back out on thurs?

    fingers are crossed Lu T!!!

has she recently been very snuffly? because the HV could be right a lot of phlegm will make her sick. also if shes got really good weight gain they may not do anything.

i think its Keely on here whose baby has reflux and shes just been referred to a specialist (i may be wrong though) so maybe she'll come along with some advice.

Hi ladies, we saw the paediatrician today-but first i am pleased to say for two weeks elliot's reflux has improved loads. he's still on the gaviscon, but things have def improved.

because of the sudden improvement, we have been told to continue with the gaviscon, as long as if needed then we can wean off it. and nothing else is needed/will be prescribed.

it looks like his body is maturing, i'm so pleased after the past few months of hell with the sickness etc.

just need to continue with the weaning now!

    keely.

ps i'd just like to add that the hospital were great, he had a thorough check up including weight, height and urine sample.

    Hi Cazscoob,
So sorry to hear of Erin's reflux. Yes my LO did a noise and then he'd start crying. it wasn't a snuffling noise, more like wind coming up type noise like a silent burp? He'd then scream for 20mins and settle til it happened again. Sometimes he just wouldn't have a break at all. He used to even scream whilst feeding and arch his back and latch on and off and back on again because he was hungry but it was also painful. I used to cry with him as I just couldn't bear seeing him in so much pain.

Things I found that helped :-
carrying him around in a sling as that would keep him more upright and the acid in his stomach.
elevating his crib with yellow pages and using a wedge pillow under his mattress.
carrying him around with his tummy down on my arm.
putting him to sleep on his tummy(i'm not advising u to do this as the advice is to put them on their backs as I'm sure u know)
He slept on my tummy til he was put on medication as I couldn't get him to settle in a cot. After 2 days of medication he slept in his cot all night (got up twice for feeds)
I found gaviscon took the edge away occasionally but lead to constipation.

    Things paediatrician said:-
carry on breast feeding, it would be worse if giving formula
mild cases babies grow out of by age 6 months but in more severe cases can go on til 18 months +

I just hope HV is right and that it is phlegm and not reflux.

keely, so glad Elliot's reflux is improving! My LO is like a new baby after taking his ranitadine. He's so smiley all the time now which is lovely. I'm much happier now too as I'm sure you are.
    xx

thanks lwcus, sorry must have been rambling. she has a snort/snuffle 24/7 but the noise she makes before being sick is different, i cant even explain it i just know that when she does it she is going to be sick?? no one else seems to hear it or reccoginse it?

i have done what i said i would never do and have her in bed beside me mainly as i panic she will choke during the night. she has been really unsettled today and is currently screaming in my arms, nothing settles her unless she is latched on and most of the time not even feeding. have just bought a sling so will use it more often! thanks for advice xx

  • you should just give them the "well... this isnt my first time" wink when they ask how you know!
if you havent picked up a few things after 5 babies id be very surprised!

my poorly DD got sent home from school on friday for being sick and she has had the runs ever since, at the same time DS has been waking between 4.30 and 5.30am and refusing to be settled, screaming the house down and waking everyone and its so unlike him,
he seemed to have the trots himself yesterday but ive had to get up with him the last 2 nights and have him sleep on me on the sofa as its the only way he will settle... hes exhausted but refuses to be alone

    *yaaaaaaaawn*
