MSE Parent Club - Part 2

Hi :hello:
My parenting filter thing on the computer locked me out of mse for a couple of weeks, and in the meantime, I developed new hobbies, so have hardly been on MSE at all. Glad to see all the usuals, and the newbies too. Just read a few intermitent pages so have definitely missed loads.
Samantha is now a whooping 16 months old, and I rather pleasingly thought to myself, oh managed to bf all three of my children till this age, then I worked out that I didn't actually stop bf DS2 at 16 months, he was actually 19 months ... so I have another 3 months to go ... till I can say I bf all three for the same length of time. (Just a little challenge I set myself when I had such problems in the early weeks).
She also weighs a massive 25.15lbs. Was comparing her to the boys, age for age, and she is massives bigger than then, though she was my biggest at birth - oh how I REALLY recall those 9.6lbs !!
Ladybird - hi, not sure how old your baby is, but good luck with the changing of the routine. Personally we taught Samantha to go to sleep on her own from the beginning cos I must have spent a year of my life spending two hours getting my boys to sleep every night when they were younger, that I swore never, ever again. She also had us up till midnight for the first 7 weeks, but then we gradually brought her bedtime earlier and earlier, and she settled down to a reasonable bedtime when she was about 3 months old.
Fortunately all my children have seemed to understand night is for sleeping and day for waking, but I must say I still made an effort to wake my babies in the daytime, (bathing, undressing, changing clothes, whatever, just so that they were awake). Hope you have success, and no harm in setting the alarm clock - in fact I did it today myself, so that I could wake up to do the school run :rotfl: .
I am so broody too ... DH had the snip so no hope there, but it doesn't stop the broodiness - hopefully I can finally get my childminding application off this week  , and maybe if I do get a baby to mind, I'll be cured  .0 -

I'm avoiding all groups at the moment, I've got a bit paranoid about it being pox season I couldn't cope with the worry in case I was one of those anomalies that caught it twice!! Hope its not too bad for you, best get your asda/tesco delivery slot booked online so you don't have to worry about organising who's staying at home (I'm assuming your OH is as useless as mine at these things)xx
Generally DH is fab - buying whatever groceries we need on the way home from work. I worked until 6pm to clear my schedule for tomorrow and most of Friday. Friday morning I have a meeting that I shouldn't miss, but a friend very kindly agreed to have him for a couple of hours. :T
DS has got more spots now, but still in an OK mood - I stuffed him with food today in case he isn't hungry tomorrow...:rolleyes:The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
No luck on the bedtime thing last night - put her down about 8, but she woke up again still hungry. But never mind - will keep trying. She's had my up since half five too (but has gone off to sleep again now!), so that combined with our busy day today, should mean she's tired by this evening I expect.
We are doing singing at the library at 11, and anti natal class (or is it post natal? I can never remember which way round they are) at 1:30. I've got to take the car back to the garage this morning, as I picked it up yesterday and they blatantly knew that the thing they replaced didn't fix the problem, but didn't want to own up to it. So we're going to have to walk into town, and hang about between our two activities - by the time we walked home it would be time to walk back in again! Will have to get lunch at a cafe or something. Not very MSE, but there you go. If it was just me i'd probably just take some sandwiches in with me, but not the weather to sit around in the cold and rain with a baby!
I'm not sure what to expect from this class - it is the health visitor run one, and goes on for 4 weeks. I don't have particularly high hopes of it being particularly useful in terms of info (but you never know, they may surprise me) but it might be a chance for a bit of networkingIsabella Molly born 14th January 2009

We've been up since just after 5, yawn! And Imogen is showing no signs of feeling tired. I was going to go to fat club this morning but it's 10-11 and if I stay then I'll miss the chance for her to nap before lunch as she goes to playgroup on Thursday afternoons.
I'm getting my hair cut while she's there today - which is very exciting in my world as I don't have to a) have it done with her sat on my lap protesting or b) get up at silly o'clock on a saturday to get it done so OH can have her. My life is soooo exciting.
On the plus side I did pilates again yesterday lunchtime and suprised myself by still being able to do some sit-ups! Then I went swimming with a friend who had a baby at xmas. We only swam for about 20 mins at a steady pace while we chatted, but it was nice to catch up and do some exercise too. She weighs roughly the same as me but she's losing the weight and I'm putting it on!
Got some work to do so will stop putting it off now!
Ladybird - keep at it. I believe in what the baby whisperer says - it takes (at least) 3 days to establish a routine and 3 days to break it. In practise it took us a good few weeks to get Imogen's bedtime routine sorted, but it does pay dividends as you finally get some couple time.
Have a good day all!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Ladybird - We went to a HV run 'course' called headstart but it lasted about 8 weeks and covered lots of interesting and useful things like 2nd stage car seats, home safety, infant resuscitation etc. mixed with fun things like hand and foot prints and on the last session we had a party
I hope urs is a good, don't think i'll be going this time
I'd have to put Chris in creche and I have a bad feeling about the surestart creche here even though a few of my friends have used it without problems
Lu - I know what you mean about hair appointments! I have to get MIL to book them for me coz she works shifts but has Chris when I have my hair done which with my colour takes about 3hrs
Just to let anyone know - Chris's app with the Orthoptist went fine, he's still got above average eye sight  but still won't wear a patch or glasses with one side covered so no individual eye tests. We'll be going back again in 12mths when hopefully he'll be more cooperative with the covering of one eye and should be the last time we see them because after that we'll be able to see the optician unless by that time bump will be around and possibly have a problem
Moissons have got some offers on nappies, johnsons stuff and weaning foods in case anyone is interested details; http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Offers/Baby/0 -
It wasn't too bad actually. It's 4 weeks. This week we did health and fitness - had a real life fitness instructor in, who gave us all a voucher for a free class too. I'm going to go to the free one to see what they do, then decide if I want to spend £75 for 12 weeks or not. It's not too bad a price as there are classes 3 times a week and you can go to as many as you want for the 12 weeks, but it's still £75 that I cant spend on food!
We were meant to have the fire brigade too, but they must have ben on a shout as they didn't turn up! I have a leaflet though, so I can get them to come give us advice. We are in a 2 bed flat and have a smoke alarm, so I'm pretty sure all they would do is remind me to check it regularly, but it's worth making sure there is nothing else.
Next week we are doing sleep and weaning, the week after is baby massage and the last week is first aid, and we can get partners/grannies along to that one, so I'm going to get my Mum to come - I think she would like to do that. (MIL is a nurse, so no worries on that side!)Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

Fortunately our general risk of fire is low because no-one smokes anywhere near our house, and we don't have a chip pan! (Let's forget the time DS3 decided to make chips using olive oil and just made a horrible smell because it doesn't get hot enough!)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
im quite jealous of all the classes and things you seem to have? we dont have anything like that?? have had the HV out again today but she didnt actually do anything? said she will be out next week to weigh erin but thats about it lol!
eventually we have had her registered so i dont have to worry about all that side of thing and got all the child benifit forms filled out and posted and also the tax credits phoned and updated. Managed to get out for a few hours to buy some clothes that fit!! however erin screamed the whole way round causing my boobs to explode and leaving me soaking wet?
