There are actually new guidelines out about weighing babies and it shouldn't be done routinely at clinics anymore...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... Why are MIL's so annoying! Hubby told his mum we didnt like the nappies she was using and to just use the Asda ones as we like them best, so I gave her a pack of nappies on Thurs when I dropped Isla off. Picked her up today and shes using the nappies we told her we didnt like, and its a new pack that shes just opened!
We ask her to bath Isla at night and she does it in the morning!
And best of all when we picked her up the highchair was sitting out. I asked if she had been using it and she said yes. When I told her she shouldnt be in it till shes about 6 months she just said, I know. Islas 3.5 months! Grrrr!!
Rant over, for now lol

Js_Other_Half - I didn't want to risk it! I basically had my dinner, watched a bit to TV and went up to talk to him. And that got him up. He didn't want my soup (as usual ) and had four cherry tomatoes for dinner . That explains why he is such a skinny chappie. And now we're all ready for bed, whether some people like it or not
. Forgot about the dream feeds - probably because I imagine a three course dinner, rather than a bottle of milk
.
Emms - you poor thing. Grrr at you MIL. I hope you get through to her.:wall:0 -

Sorry Sami... I lurk sometimes
Can't really reveal my sources... But I know one of the people who was working on the focus group of the new growth charts that go in the back of the red books... One of the recommendations that came from the meetings was that weighing wasn't done routinely every other week... A few places will already be implementing it but think it rolls out across the country properly in April...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... Sounds like out lot are straight on that then. At least they're implementing some new guidance and not just being generally crap like they usually are. I feel a bit bad about being stroppy about the reduced service now!
Krystal - You said weighing shouldn't be done routinely at clinics any more. Does that imply it should be done elsewhere, or just not done?
Sami - hadn't even thought of getting in touch with HV team about our impending arrival. Used to have a HV who was amazing but she was moved to another area and my whole mum & baby group went into mourning! There was no mention of the 2yr check now being a 2.5yr check when I rang, but I'll be interested to see whether they get in touch or whether we just fall by the wayside.
** Controversy alert - no wonder lots of 'at risk' children seem to slip through the net if there isn't a framework for keeping in touch with families. Apart from the kind of abuse needing hospital treatment, how on earth does low-level abuse get picked up if LO isn't in any kind of organised childcare?

Krystal - does ur top secret source know if they were thinking of making it more explicit that those growth charts are based on formula fed babies?
I'll be gutted if they stop running weekly baby clinic here and I honestly don't know what they will do either because ours is sooo busy, my GP practice has 12 doctors so you can imagine how many babies and toddlers are registered there!
I find it comforting to know that if I'm worried I can pop over the road on a Monday afternoon and see the HV with out having to wait for some kind of appointsment
Lu - around here the HVs get notified of all preg ladies because they come to see you before your due so you know who they are before bubs arrives0 -
Don't panic Sami, clinic will still be made available to parents but not the routine of weigh baby first to gain access to the HV. Parents should just be able to drop in and see HV at the weekly clinic as normal.
The new guidelines will be published in the red books about how often weighing should take place, can't remember them off the top of my head now but it is a lot less often than previously. A lot of research was done into the way parents and health care proffesionals viewed weighing babies and many of them didn't understand the growth charts or what they meant. Too much emphasis was put on babies gaining weight whether they were gaining healthily or not and those that weren't were being treated for the slow weight gain rather than investigated for what was causing it... (Poor weight gain is a sympton of something else, not a problem in itself) also, for the babies that were just slow gainers but otherwise healthy, too much is put on the amount of weight they gain rather than looking at the baby as a whole and assessing their health, especially in the bf infants formula top ups etc recommended when un-neccessary....
And from April (hopefully) there are 2 different charts based on the way you are feeding your baby... Breast fed infants will get a chart based on breastfeeding growth and formula fed / mix fed infants will get a chart based on formula growth....A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... That sounds better, Although the HVs here are really good, Chris is a slow grower but has always steadily put on weight and they've always been happy with him as far as they were concerned as long as he was happy and eating/drinking they were happy too
but I know thats not the case for lots of peeps
