Not sure why but my Grandpas name was Henry but everyone called him Harry??!!Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0
-
I've never understood that as it's still the same length (like Jack for John).
Hee hee My sister is Julie and we call her Jules, its bit like Jamie for James too.
Us humans are a funny species0 -
James is accident prone. I've been to A&E so many times with him, it's a wonder he's not on an at risk list or something! He's had bangs on his head, split his head open a few times, suspected broken ankle but it was just a bad sprain, sliced his hand open on a Stanley knife my ex left lying around, plus countless bumps, cuts and scrapes.
Have all the babies and toddlers been enjoying the pancakes. Charlotte was watching me cook them and screamed with excitment and did a little dance everytime I tossed them. Then she smeared chocolate all over her face while she ate themHere I go again on my own....0 -
I forgot it was pancake day but we have them every Sunday for breakfast anyway.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Thank goodness you all have bumped babies too. Tom is forever bumping and banging himself, the latest being today when he fell flat on his face and bloodied his nose, ouch!
Baby names - the boys' names at the school where I work seem to be undergoing a change. After several years of Jakes, Jacks Liams, Arrans, Lewis, Kyles and Jordans we have lots of Olivers, Williams, Isaacs, Harrys, James, Alfies, Archies and Josephs. Can't really say about girls as we have loads fewer girls than boys and there doesn't seem to be a pattern though we do have two Lilys on their way! I do like Lily Rose though Sami_Bee - I would have liked that for Tom had he been a girl.
Funnily enough even though Tom has one of the most common names in the country I've never taught a Tom and I only know one other Tom. My friend called her oldest an "unusual" name and then it seems everyone else has done the same thing as it's certainly not unusual in my area. My mam thought the same about my name when I was born then there were loads of people with my name in the few years below me. It seems to have gone out of fashion though - I only know of one child with my name.0 -
Can anyone help with ideas for boy's names please? We have very few and can't seem to agree on any. I like 'real' names, but nothing too popular because we have a common surname. I like Heath, Ned, Alex and Max at the moment, but none feels just right IYSWIM?
My Dad is Ned! Well, his real name is Norman!:rotfl:. He is a twin and his Mum let the MW name them as it was her first muliple birth .

would i be a cruel mummy if I sent him to school with patches on his knees??Meant to say earlier Savvy Sue do you think Ned on Pushing Daisies is rather dishy:blushing: I do! OH says its ok coz he likes the blonde waitress oneMy parents tried to pick names which were known but not too popular at the time but when I did my PGCE there managed to be three of us called Susan in a class of 50 which was sometimes confusing as people didn't expect there to be more than one.
My grandmother was Susannah but was always knows as Queenie. I wanted to be a Queenie too but no-one would use that name for me.SeptemberBaby wrote: »My Dad is Ned! Even though DS3 was my midwife's last baby (she was about to retire), she wasn't going to choose any names!
BTW, have any of you ever chosen a name, then looked at the baby and thought "No, s/he's not a Jo s/he's a something completely different!"?Friends of mine did.
Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
3 out of 50? You got off lightly. There were four of us in my CLASS of 25 at secondary school, and four of us in my house of 36 (small boarding school).Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

My Mam did that with me! For years she was going to call her first girl Victoria and she continued right through the pregnancy thinking Victoria if it's a girl.
Then when I was born, she took one look at me and decided Victoria didn't suit. She'd been reading a magazine with short stories in early labour and one of the characters was called Rebecca, and she decided that suited me better!
I liked it as I was the only Rebecca right through school, but I could never get personalised rulers, pens etc., with my name on. It's more popular now though.
Joshua was unusual and I didn't know any Joshua's when I named him, but then everyone started naming their boys Joshua and it's been in the top 10 for years now. Here I go again on my own....0
